Uno di quei libri che mentre lo leggi continui a pensare "Ecco un libro che tutti dovrebbero leggere". il motivo è semplice: avevo assistito alla presentazione del libro un paio di anni fa, al salone del libro di torino, più per caso che per altro, ed ero rimasta molto colpita dal ragazzo da cui nasce la storia, un ragazzo molto giovane ma molto determinato che invece che essere in balia dell'intervistatrice aveva il controllo (cosa piuttosto rara). However, this brevity is also a downside to this book as at times the details are a bit sketchy and in need of fleshing out.

I recommend this one for a quick, less in depth look at tragic events such as this and tales of survival coming from the Middle East. Pötzsch regaled his audience with the details of the executioners' duties his family performed throughout Germany for three centuries, such as the skill and finesse required to successfully perform a swift, painless beheading. Sicuramente è più facile, avere paura e aggredire il prossimo - ma sicuramente è più bello, sapere che nel nostro piccolo abbiamo fatto qualcosa per rendere il mondo un posto migliore. His life-and-death adventures are narrated in a low-key, matter-of-fact, childlike way, without being in the least cloying or sensational, and the tale is directly addressed to the author, so that young Enaiat seems to be standing right next to Italian author Geda, dictating his hair-raising exploits.It is an insightful and educational book about the courage of a 10 year old forced to face the world alone and survive against all odds.

In the Sea There are Crocodiles (Italian: Nel mare ci sono i coccodrilli) is a 2010 novel and the third book by Fabio Geda. una signora che gli dà dei soldi e lo mette su un treno, un sorriso da uno sconosciuto, il ragazzo si ricorda tutto. Non lo definirei un romanzo, più un reportage, un memoir, un’intervista, un racconto verità, che è anche storia di formazione e riscatto.

It is loosely based on the life of Afghan refugee Enaiatollah Akbari and is taken from a series of interviews Geda conducted with Akbari.

From Afghanistan with his mother, her desertion and his sole journey through Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Greece, until finally he arrived in Italy, Enaia’s journey took approximately five years. It is a quick read with occasional excerpts of conversations between subject and author included throughout the book.

The result of their friendship is this unique book in which Enaiatollah’s engaging, moving voice is brilliantly captured by Geda’s subtly simple storytelling. Whilst the author does a great job of portraying one boy’s escape and survival I'm not convinced that it really adds much to the debate which is exercising most of the world in one way or other around this very contentious topic . Eppure il tono di fondo riesce a rimanere leggero e positivo, la speranza nell'umanità riesce in qualche modo a superare l'atrocità di certe situazioni e di alcune persone. Non è semplice, la vita di un ragazzino abbandonato a se stesso e costretto a racimolare lavori e soldi per sopravvivere.una testimonianza e conoscerla significa contribuire a farla diventare passato anziché continuare a restare vergognosamente attualità. A tratti sembra quasi che voglia mettersi all’altezza d’occhi del bambino Enaiat (quando a raccontare è però un ventenne), senza considerare che è una delle magie più difficili da raggiungere, e raramente riescono, e succede più spesso al cinema che in narrativa. Mi è piaciuto molto perché, a mio parere, fa sempre bene approfondire un argomento così importante e attuale. Non conoscevo Fabio Geda ed ero curioso di leggere qualcosa di suo: spero di avere solo sbagliato punto di partenza, spero che la sua opera mi riservi momenti migliori. This novel is also translated and the tone is very matter of fact, this is how his life was, this is what he had to do, there was very little time for sorrow.
