M41) - During the final century of the 41 st Millennium, the Lamenters became involved in the Badab War as allies of the Secessionist Astral Claws, Mantis Warriors and Executioners Chapters, who believed they were defending the Adeptus Astartes' traditional autonomy from incursion by corrupt Imperial officials. The Sanguinary Guard do not believe that the Sanguinor is the Chapter's primarch but that he is Azkaellon, the original founder of the Sanguinary Guard, who has been preserved beyond time by the divine will of the Emperor. M41, Captain Zorael led elements of the Blood Angels 4th Company to the world of Khartas, there to put an end to localised acts of piracy by a ragtag fleet of Ork renegades. Their armour is ceremoniously painted black, after which they are corralled into the Death Company and unleashed upon the foe. Towards the end of the brutal Cryptus Campaign, Dante gathered together the Death Company in a single strike force for the assault on Tartoros when needs demanded the world be reclaimed.

The Sanguinor rarely appears on the field of battle, only arriving when the Blood Angels are in dire need of his aid. With the eyes of the Death Company upon him, the Sanguinor beat his wings several times, rising once more above the monstrous swarm.Originally there was not a Techmarine as part of the principal cast, but we realised we needed someone who was responsible for the functioning of the ship and the wargear. The Sanguinor, also known as the Exemplar of the Host, is a mysterious entity of unknown origin that is associated with the Blood Angels Space Marines Chapter, and has been named after Sanguinius, the Blood Angels' martyred primarch. The Lamenters Chapter had been reduced to barely two hundred surviving Astartes by the time they were relieved by their fellow Space Marines. Knowing that the guardsmen are hostile, Kazarion almost immediately shoots the leader's head in a gory mess.

At the time of writing I’ve now made four chapter-specific space marine character name generators - one each for the Ultramarines, the Imperial Fists, the Blood Angels and the Dark Angels. Whatever the reality of the matter, the Sanguinor is an honoured part of the heritage of the Blood Angels Chapter, as integral to their identities as servants of the Emperor of Mankind as the rest of their traditions and rituals, an honoured figure of hope in a time of darkness and woe. This only further supports the beliefs of some members of the Inquisition that the Blood Angels as a Chapter have come perilously close to mutation, corruption and ultimately heresy.A great duel ensued between angel and Daemon, in which neither could gain the upper hand, though the Sanguinor subsequently broke the infernal beast's potent Khornate battleaxe. Though the visions eventually faded, Sanguinius’ death left a permanent psychic imprint within the gene-code of his sons – a flaw that still exists in every Blood Angel more than 10 millennia later. Reduced to barely 200 surviving battle-brothers by their sacrifice, the Lamenters were deemed lost when their fleet disappeared in a Warp Storm soon afterwards, only to reappear more than a standard century later on the edge of the Segmentum Solar, having slowly battled their way back from the outer void. While all Chaplains are charged with maintaining the spiritual purity of their fellow Space Marines, as a Blood Angel, Rafael is also responsible for easing the fury within and ensuring the squad do not succumb to the Black Rage.
