Next, there’s the Motorbar cleaning head for carpets. Again, it’s anti-tangle and stops hair from getting wrapped around it, but this head is designed for carpets. The dust bin is small and that means it isn’t ideal for larger houses, but the flipside is the lighter weight means it’s easier to move around. The removal of the trigger also means that, while it can’t be operated one-handed, it doesn’t rely on a constant grip being maintained. For older users, this combination may be ideal. On the Auto mode, we got a maximum of 40 minutes of fade-free power, while the Boost mode gave us no more than 20 minutes with the Laser Slim Fluffy. As soon as we've got the full results we'll update our review, but below we've listed out five of the biggest upgrades on Dyson V12 Detect Slim: When we were first introduced to the Dyson V12 Detect Slim, it was only mentioned in passing during the official announcement for the V15 Detect. All we were told was that it was slimmer and had less suction power compared to the flagship – which makes sense given that V15 is clearly 3 better than V12. However, if you think of it as a powered-up V11 – which was, itself, certainly no slouch –you soon realise that this is a very capable cordless vac. There are some niggles, however, and one of those is having to switch the floor heads for different surfaces. However, the soft roller head does work very well on hard floors and, better yet, it comes with the innovative laser “Detect” feature that Dyson first introduced with the V15. This shows you where the dirt is by lighting it up with a green laser, the idea being you don’t miss anything. It works well but is at its best in dim conditions. Bright sunlight can make the laser hard to see.The only other major difference between the V12 and the V15 is the bin capacity. As mentioned earlier, the V12 comes with a 0.35L bin – the same one used in the Omni-Glide – and is just enough for a one-bedroom apartment. If you happen to live in a larger home, especially one with wall-to-wall carpeting, then you’ll find yourself emptying the bin often.

With more recent Dyson models, such as the V11 Absolute, V12 Slim Detect Slim and V15 Detect, you also get: Hinge feature This is a new feature that you won't find on older Dyson models, but they've now rolled it out to new V8s, which are very similar to V7s. Battery life is a hard thing to measure with this vacuum cleaner, particularly in auto mode, as the level of dirt, floor head and type of surface all make a difference. Even so, after extensively testing the vacuum cleaner, and pushing it around on a regular carpet to clean, I found that it lasted for 24m 57s on the automatic mode. Dyson’s cordless vacuum line has always been an aspirational household appliance for me (you know you’re an adult when you look forward to buying a vacuum). But I always felt like such an expensive item was overkill for a tiny New York apartment and that I wouldn’t use it to its full extent. The cheaper models also never felt quite “cheap” either. If I was going to drop hundreds of dollars on a Dyson, I didn’t want to settle. But it still had to be slim, with an array of tools I knew I would reach for (and none that I wouldn’t). However, you get the full 60 minutes only when using the Eco mode with a non-motorized attachment.
