About this deal

LETSHUOER has hit the nail on the head with the S12. If you enjoy a bit more bass rumble and detail in your music, these will probably be a better buy for you than the 7Hz Timeless. Sensitive listeners may find it a bit too bright, but I found it to be a well balanced set for music, movies, and even gaming (with Dolby Atmos). At the current price, these earphones are a great value and a solid choice, especially if you’re curious what all the planar magnetic hype is about. In using a newer nozzle filter that is what Letshuoer is doing to create a newer “pro” version by lowering these aspects for better balance but then you throw on a more resolving silver plated monocrystalline copper cable? You see what I am getting at? I suppose you have to be really into your cable pair ups to fully understand what I am talking about. Bright +more resolving cable = Brighter. strands of silver-plated monocrystalline copper run the length of the cable attaining a heftier than average feel. And a mix of dark and silver strokes twists cleanly inside each of the two plastic-bound wires giving it an element of intricacy. Beneath the first layer, a compact protective case is included bearing the company’s logo preserved in transit by thin plastic. The chosen cable, the 4.4mm balanced one, resides inside with the two sets of extra ear tips.

S12 Pro Review - Headfonia Reviews Letshuoer S12 Pro Review - Headfonia Reviews

The treble range of the LetShuoer S12 shows an above average grade of brightness and is able to create a good sense of clarity and airiness, while the extension is in general on an adequate level. The transitions in this area are in general fairly fast and controlled, when instruments do play with high level of distortion, thanks to the well-adjusted 14.8mm dia. Planar Magnetic Driver. If you know what a character of planar-magnetics is, then you are not gonna get surprised here. S12s have that effortless, uncolored style of presentation. It’s super coherent, smooth, but not derived of information. With obvious out of the way, what is the characteristic of this IEM? Despite its characteristic of looking bass-heavy, I don’t feel it this way. It has some peaking in high frequencies, and I have had to tame it with foam tips. It gave lots of presence, but for me, it was too much. When damped with mentioned tips, the highs have a bit of smooth roll so take that into consideration, please. Overall I prefer warmer sound, as highs can be a bit overwhelming for me. Detail and resolution here are excellent in this price range, they just deliver the information to you, no questions asked. I really liked listening to some electronic music on them as they show textures very well. The treble on the S12 PRO is well extended and clear with good detail retrieval that doesn't resort into becoming analytical. The soundstage of both IEM’s offers a sufficient level of performance in terms of separation & placement of instruments and vocals. The stage of the 7HZ Timeless is a tad deeper, while the sense of airiness and wideness is pretty similar. We are in for some surprises. The S12 killed my beloved Final E5000 with my Questyle QP1R reference dap in these aspects: staging, transparency, really good transients, and upper extension. I hope I just had a bad morning when testing these two. The Final has a narrower stage lesser upper extension, less clarity…but more bass quantity. The S12 pro has been a nice surprise for me. This being my very first IEM I have reviewed from Letshuoer. I can understand why there is a following for the S12 and the pro model. It has a solid all metal build with a very easy to use shape. Includes a nice cable with modularity albeit in my opinion is the wrong match up with its sound profile but a high quality cable nonetheless. We have also insider information that points to this as well as indirect evidence from upper harmonics measurements. Apparently, this OEM driver has been catching dust on the market for quite some time. The LetShuoer S12 offers pretty lively, dynamic and entertaining presentation. It has not a reference type and tuning, but the colorations that you will hear from the lows to the highs make it to an IEM that is suitable for a wide variety of genres. The lows are produced in a quite deep, pretty fast and impactful manner, while the midrange sounds pretty transparent, vivid and detailed thanks to the well pronounced upper midrange tuning. The treble range on the other hand is able to produce a good sense of airiness and sparkle, while the resolution and extension of this area is on an efficient level for a product at this price tag.

The LetShuoer S12 comes with a decent detachable cable that is made of 128 stands of Silver Plated Monocrystalline Copper wire. Mid-bass - On the other hand mid-bass is very well defined and full. Notes are clearly heard and for someone who plays the bass guitar can be easily distinguished. It is not only a question of boom boom, the bass guitarist is putting together notes at different tempo with interesting phrasing, if the listener cares to appreciate the work going into the music. If not, it is important to the listener that it all hangs together well, melodic and pushes the emotional buttons which draws us to music.

Soundstage/Imaging

The S12 PRO is resolving, crystal clear and transparent in the mid-range with a natural voicing that is combined with the already excellent bass performance to make for an immersive and realistic listening experience perfectly suitable for classical music and not only. The lower midrange of the LetShuoer S12 shows a good sense of depth and body, which is an advantage for male voices. Male vocals such like Dave Gahan, Sting or Elton John do sound pretty intimate and emotional, while the level of clarity is decent. Instruments like violas, acoustic guitars or bassoons are reproduced in a pretty clean and detailed manner. Clarity, layering and definition are above average while the bass is tight, fast and controlled with good timing. The midrange is the least notable part of the of the S12 Pros’ presentation of music. That is not to say it falls short in anyway. Again, it is worth noting that your source and amplification play a part in how your music is presented. However, the presentation is delightful with full voices and instruments. The tuning gives you a soft yet silky presentation.

The 2-Pin connectors do have a metal housing in gun metal colour that do sport left (transparent) and right (red) colour indicators. The S12 did pretty well in spacing out images both through the front and side. So even if it stages lesser towards the middle, the distinction between different instruments and separation can still be observed. Some innovative CHI-FI companies even attempted to fuse planars with conventional drivers – the TRI I3, I3 Pro, Raptgo Hook-X, and Kinera Celest Gumiho are cases in point. Regarding the latter, there’s some controversy about whether the drivers used in the Celest could be classified as legitimate planars, but that’s a tale for another time.

Tests were done with a Khadas Toneboard DAC -> Schiit Asgard 3 amp, E1DA 9038, Questyle M15, Colorfly CDA M1, Tempotec Sonata HD Pro (BHD firmware mod), smartphone, and Sony NW A-55 DAP (Walkman One mod) using FLAC and WAV files. Cable The overall build quality of the monitors is decent, and doesn’t show any imperfections such like burrs or gaps.

Shuoer S12 • Ear Fidelity

IEMs with planar drivers handling the bass frequencies generally have rapid bass transients but do not move air or decay as much as traditional DD drivers, which is the case with the S12 Pro. The LetShuoer S12 shows a pretty transparent and spacious midrange atmosphere thanks to its pronounced upper midrange tuning. The level of clarity, airiness and detail retrieval is on a pretty good level, which will satisfy most listeners. In terms of quality, bass texturing is pillowy and sometimes can sound undefined, but bass speed is lightning fast and can cope with complex bass movements. There’s just a hint of mid-bass bleed, but thankfully the bass does not encroach much into the midrange. Midrange Resolution, detail and soundstage - I kinda get where the hype comes from, as the resolving ability of the S12 is astonishing, especially at this price range. I think it's even more accurate and detailed than Sundara. The soundstage is just average, S12 plays pretty much in your head, and I think this is fairly standard in an IEM, but the recessed mids make everything sound thin and small. Good bass and treble extension makes up for it a little bit. Instrument separation is quite good, but not as impressive as expected, since Shuoer S12 sounds rather smooth and the tuning is more fun than analytical. Despite the vents, i solation is actually above average, and these would make for a good commuting pair of IEMs. Comfort
