About this deal

Use a slow speed at first, as this will remove less blade material and create less heat. When you have a better feel of how the belt grinder works you can try faster speeds. The Work Sharp E5 is Work Sharp's kitchen knife sharpener. It's made for use indoors, with a handy vacuum to collect the metal dust and shavings during sharpening. It has three speeds--Shape, Sharpen, Refine. You will use Shape if your knife is badly damaged, otherwise you'll use the Sharpen and Refine setting most of the time. Overall, it's a nice system, if your knives have a 17 degree angle (34 degree inclusive). The upgrade kit allows you to sharpen 15- and 20-degree blades, as well.

Home chefs and knife collectors hoping to sharpen their valuable knives without breaking the bank should look into KitchenIQ’s Edge Grip 2-Stage Knife Sharpener. This compact pull-through sharpener features a budget-friendly price tag and a simple, guess-free sharpening system. In short: The Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener will sharpen all of your knives with little effort. In fact, you could probably get your favorite blades dialed in while daydreaming. If you've ever been in a woodworker's or metal fabricator's shop, then you know that belt grinders can be huge, heavy, and very powerful pieces of equipment. This pretty much makes them not easy to use, because there's a learning curve involved and you can ruin a lot of knives along the way.

Metal base

Like all belt grinders, the MK2 is also loud and messy. It spits metal dust during sharpening, so you really don't want to use it in your kitchen, and you should probably wear a dust mask and safety glasses when using. The 3/4" x 12” premium, flexible engineered abrasive belts sharpen virtually any shape or type of knife blade and uses a precision sharpening guide to ensure that you get a consistent angle every time. The sharpening guide is fully adjustable in 1° increments from 15° to 30° so you can sharpen any knife to the angle you desire to best meet your needs. The variable speed control (1200 SFM to 2800 SFM) provides you with the optimal belt speed for the task at hand. The sharpening stone holder contains a handle to make sure your hand never gets close to the sharp edge of your knives. The steel guiding rod has a screw thread that you use to screw it into the sharpening system. The metal guiding rod is long enough to also allow you to sharpen longer kitchen knives. For example, chef's knives, carving knives or filleting knives. The guiding rod has rubber rings that you slide over it. This determines how far you can slide the sharpening stone holder over the guide rod. The Work Sharp MK2 is the original Work Sharp belt grinder. It can grind to a fixed 20- or 25-degree angle. It's easy to use and easy to swap out the belts.

Some users recommend doing just the coarse grinding on a belt grinder and finishing on a stone. This gives you both speed and accuracy, and protects your blades (from both heat and over-grinding). This is not essential, but it's something to think about.

The Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener consists of a safe and ergonomic rolling sharpener to which you attach the abrasive sharpening discs. The design keeps your hand away from the blade edge. The discs magnetically attach to it so the user can easily swap them.

The Work Sharp Power Knife & Tool Sharpener is essentially a small benchtop belt grinder engineered specifically for sharpening knives and tools. It features nonskid feet, a variable-speed trigger, an edge guard for improved consistency, and an adjustable angle guide for precision blade profiling between 15 and 30 degrees. The five included abrasive belts were custom designed for sharpening high-end knife steel. The adjustable rotating cassette allows users to sharpen scissors and other tools in addition to knives of all shapes and sizes. The base of the Professional Precision Adjust is made of metal. A big upgrade from its predecessor, the Precision Adjust, which has a plastic base. By using metal, there is less flexibility in the system and you get more accurate sharpening results. The base is also reinforced, making the sharpening system stand steadier on a table. For those who plan to use the system often: the base of the Professional Precision Adjust features screw holes. With these, you mount the sharpening system permanently on a workbench. Clamp and tilting system

Easy Returns

For those wanting full control of the sharpening experience, the Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener™ is an angle adjustable, three abrasive grit, knife sharpening system that delivers precision and repeatability by controlling both the edge angle and the blade in unison. We especially liked that the depth gauge and stopper pin allowed us to position a knife in the clamp exactly the same way every time. Also, because the double-sided stones simply slide down onto the rods, changing grits was fast and easy. Starting with the 100-grit stone, we reprofiled our blade to 20 degrees with just 10 strokes per side. We then progressed through the 200-, 400-, 600-, 800-, and 1,000-grit stones at four to five strokes per side before honing with the 4,000- and 8,000-grit strops. Actual sharpening time was about 10 minutes. To fully sharpen a blade, you need at least two different grits, and preferably three (just as with pull-through models). People who are really into sharp, polished edges can use several stones (and a lot of time and effort), but you don't need to do this to get an excellent razor-sharp edge.
