Portfolio Preparation | Summer School (16+) - Leith School of Art - Edinburgh

Richard Serra says drawing is a verb – there is no one way to make a drawing, there is only drawing – an invitation to investigate the world in a physical way.During this inspiring and playful week, students will be introduced to a range of drawing activities, guiding them towards a project that could be used as part of a portfolio for application to Art College. Looking at ways of finding inspiration and thinking creatively, students will learn how to make considered and personal visual responses to a subject, including the draped life model. Using sketchbooks as a tool, students will explore how artists approach the research and development aspect of making work and there will also be the opportunity to experiment with techniques in both two and three dimensional processes. Then, depending on students’ own particular interests, these responses will be further developed through drawing, painting, collage, sculpture or design. Past students’ portfolios will be shown and guidance given on what is required for a successful UCAS application, making this an ideal course for anyone interested in studying art and design who would like to experience a range of activities based on the Leith School of Art Foundation Course and first year at art college.Portfolio Preparation Summer SchoolTutor: Brigid CollinsFees: £338Days: Monday - Friday, 9:30am – 4:30pmLocation: North Junction St. CampusDates: 27 Jul - 31 Jul 2020Please note, this course is open to students aged 16+.Classes begin at 9.30am and end at 4.30pm, with a break for lunch between 1.00pm and 2.00pm.
