About this deal

mesh lining above the bathtub floor increases ventilation and keeps you further from the canopy walls, so you stay nice and dry. The Skyscape Trekker has two doors and vestibules. Its dual entry allows you to enter/exit and store gear on either side of the shelter. In good weather, the double vestibule doors can be completely rolled up to provide 300-degree views from inside the tent. Hybrid double wall design Like all our shelters itis designed to be pitched with adjustable trekking poles or with our fixed length aluminum or carbon fiber poles (sold separately). Stakes included: 0 (I used six MSR Groundhogs and two Nemo Airpins for the optional guylines during testing) – here’s why a lightweight Y-stake like the MSR Groundhog and Groundhog Mini offers the best tent stake holding power for its weight and size) Single-walled tents are prone to condensation. However, I have not had major condensation issues with the Lunar Solo. In 2019, SMD redesigned the top vent to improve airflow and increase durability. There is a full perimeter noseeum netting between the bathtub floor and shelter walls. The Lunar Solo is designed to pull in cold air from the bottom and vent warmer air out the top. Easy to pitch

The Big Agnes Tiger Wall is a semi-freestanding, three-season tent with an easy breezy weight of just over two pounds. The Lunar Solo's distinctive low hexagonal shape easily spills the wind no matter the direction. Short, steeply sloped sides, handle snow or high winds with ease. A generous canopy covers a 26 sq. ft. sleeping area plus 8.5 sq. ft. of vestibule storage. The 48" peak height, set in the middle of the tent maximizes room for sitting and taking care of chores. The Skyscape Trekker has two (8 sq. ft.) vestibules on either side of the shelter. Vestibules are big enough for footwear or small pieces of gear. In good conditions, the vestibule can be completely rolled up, allowing surrounding views and improved ventilation. Dual Side Entries The Lunar Solo's distinctive low hexagonal shape easily spills the wind no matter the direction. Short, steeply sloped sides, handle snow or high winds with ease. A generous canopy covers a26 sq. ft. sleeping area plus8.5 sq. ft. of vestibule storage. The 49" peak height, set in the middle of the tent maximizes room for sitting and taking care of chores.

Conclusion

There’s a zipper that connects the two half-front doors, which you close above the front guyline. Each door has a small webbing loop at its base which you can connect to a prusik knot that travels along the front guyline. This lets you tension the doors down or up, or connect one to the guyline and not the other. Despite having such thin 10D ripstop nylon for the body and fly, The One holds up well in any three-season condition. Not sure where to get started? There is *so much* jargon when it comes to tents, particularly with high-quality tents. I’ve created a buying guide to explain the differences between single and double-wall tents, freestanding versus trekking pole tents, and ultralights versus bivvies.

Full Vestibule provides protection while still maintaining good ventilation when closed. Fully open, the vestibule maximizes ventilation and view. The Kammok Kuhli UL also offers remarkable adaptability with its eight different guy lines with trekking compatible grommets; there's no need to tie the string off to your poles. This made it super easy to set up and change configurations if wind direction changed, without having to un-stake the tarp! This is another reason the Kuhli wins a notable mention for its great value as a tarp. There’s a whole science to setting up a tent correctly. You want to make sure the fly is tight enough to bounce a quarter off; you’ve got to make sure you’re not on a slope, and if you are on a hill, that your head is facing uphill. What about sometimes widely discussed condensation? The tent has the same condensation issues as any other tent. If somebody claims that one tent is coping well with condensation and another one is not, I don’t believe it. Condensation is basically the matter of physics, you can’t come up with a magic formula to beat it. What I’ve found really helpful with condensation was to keep the fly on the entrance side rolled up, it greatly increases the ventilation.

Design

The canopy and floor of the Scout are constructed with 190T Polyester. Since this fabric is used in literally millions of tents, it is very cost effective. Incorporating Polyester fabric into the Scoutmakes it the most affordable ultralight tent on the market today. First, this isn’t going to be the lightest shelter for a single wall. You’re going to be giving up 10 oz. But, it’s bomb proof in storms, although doesn’t carry or shed snow all that well. Typically you’ll need to tension the guy lines at least twice, three times in rain, giving 20-30 mins in between. But all Sylnylon has this issue. The dual pole structure is slightly offset from the center of the tent. The offset yields extra head room when lying down, reducing that claustrophobic feeling. Further, it allows the Skyscapeto be extremely rigid when guyed out, creating a structure capable of riding out the worst storms. The interior of the Lunar Solo is quite comfortable and spacious with plenty of headroom to sit up or change your clothing inside. Like all pyramid shelters, the head and foot ends slope down, but the floor is long enough (90″) that there’s little risk of internal condensation transfer. There are also additional guy-out points halfway up the sidewalls that you can guy out with extra cordage to increase the interior space and anchor the tent down in high wind. The Lunar Solo has a bathtub floor to prevent rainwater from flooding the tent floor.

Silpoly is more compressible than silnylon. It is also less likely to sag, allowing for a tauter pitch. Siliconized polyester is less likely to trap moisture and is less likely to delaminate. Silpoly is shaking up the ultralight world and as a smaller brand, Six Moon Designs has had the most time of almost any brand to perfect using it in a shelter. Netting I chose the Geertop Ultralight Bivy as the best because it has all the benefits of a standard tent, it’s just smaller. I like that this bivy has structure– the poles keep the fabric off your face. Easy Tensioning Adjustment makes keeping the tent taut a trivial task that can be accomplished while still in your sleeping bag. Re-tension straps have been added to all tie out points. The Lunar Solar has a large side entry that is easy to enter and exit. I find it much more comfortable and convenient to use rather than a front-entry shelter. Floor AreaThe key to making Lunar Solo the sturdy shelter it can be is in the pitching. If you have no previous experience with trekking pole shelters you may have a steep learning curve. More so than other tents we recommend some practice pitching. See the review by Cairngorm Treks below for more advice on pitching. The lightweight rainfly is treated with silicone on both sides(sil/sil), which gives the tent excellent waterproofing. I love that the peak height is 38″ because this height will provide enough space for just about anyone. The Hubba Hubba minimizes this problem with enough mesh on the inner tent to make it breathable while avoiding significant leaks.
