CINEMA PARADISO, the winner of the Academy Award for best foreign language film, and an Italian cinema classic, follows the story of a young boy in post-war Sicily, growing up with an undying love for film and cinema. The film, deemed a celebration of youth, friendship, and the everlasting magic of the movies, comes further enhanced with a score by the legendary composer Ennio Morricone. Pasquale Iannone of the Italian Film Festival, will give a short introduction to the film. The short film selection for the night offer new perspectives to Italian contemporary culture, with localities ranging from Italian countryside to the outskirts of Rome and brings together stories about gas station valets to the bittersweet shortcomings of superstitious funeral directors. Cinema on the Shore is produced by Cinetopia Edinburgh (a voluntary-led film society and organisation) in partnership with Everyone and Us, the Edinburgh Short Film Festival, INDY cinema, and Tenement Pizzeria. The event is in partnership with The Italian Chamber of Commerce in the UK.
