Fri 24th – Sun 26th July 2020In this three day hands – on Summer School, you will have a day and a half structured Introduction to Laser Cutting, learning a number of different ways to prepare vector files and laser cut and etch your images onto paper, card, acrylic, fabric and wood. This will be followed by a day and a half to either continue to experiment, or complete a personal project.This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability; the emphasis is on introducing you to the full potential of the laser cutter. No previous experience necessary. Course notes provided.This course is ideal if you are new to laser cutting and would like to know more, if you have access to a laser cutter and would like to know how to get the best out of it, if you are thinking of buying one, if you are planning to use laser cutting in your creative work and possibly outsource to a commercial laser cutting company, or would like to come back to the studio and laser cut your own work, after the course. Understanding the process fully will enable you to make informed decisions in all of the above situations. It is also just a fun way to spend a few days and learn new skills.All courses run by Jenny Smith (www.jennysmith.org.uk) and held at The Edinburgh Laser Cutting Studio: Jenny's studio at Leith Links, Edinburgh. Jenny has 12 years of experience in using laser cutting in her own practice and over 20 years experience of teaching. She has won a number of awards for her work and is one of the leading authorities on creative laser cutting in Scotland. Cost £280. All Materials & refreshments provided. Time: 10.30 am – 5pm. No’s: limited to 4 participants to allow for individual attention and time on the laser. Each participant will be allocated a laptop and individual wall and desk space to work on/pin work up on Gift Vouchers Available. Edinburgh is a great city to visit for a few days.
