About this deal

The only thing that bothers me with this set is that Pertwee on the spine is visibly bigger than Doctors on the other spines.

As beloved as Season 7 of Doctor Who is, there’s no doubting it’s a bit of a mish-mash; unlike the modern series, where a showrunner might be allowed a generous amount of time to work out how they want to present the new Doctor, Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks had less than 6 months to pull together a new Doctor, new companion, new format and the switch to colour broadcasting that was having an impact on every production within the BBC. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. The Doctor Who Site also participates in various other affiliate marketing programs, which means we may get paid commission on products purchased through our links. The whole look of the series became brighter and more ‘comic strip’ and, significantly, one serial saw the Doctor briefly lifted out of his exile and sent by the Time Lords to sort out some rum business on an alien planet, the first signs of Letts and Dicks tugging at the narrative straitjacket of the stranded-on-Earth format. I don’t think it will be season 17 as I figure they would want to do some work in Paris for city of death as it is a highlight of the season. It’s a well-meaning story with some great acting from Pertwee, Manning and Delgado, but it trundles along at such a stately pace that it’s difficult to actually love. As we’ve come to expect from ‘The Collection’, this season of stories come with a mammoth quota of extras, some dating from the DVD release of the stories, but many of them brand new. Behind the Sofa - New episodes with Katy Manning, Stewart Bevan, Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton, Sacha Dhawan and Anjli Mohindra.

There’s an incredible feeling of otherness about it, partly from the incredible design of the Axons and their ship and partly (through sheer serendipity) from the ‘freak weather conditions’, which reduce the depth of field in a lot of shots and give oven outdoor shots an enclosed, claustrophobic feel. mixes certainly help punch up the sound quality) and it’s a credit to all those who have worked tirelessly to scrub these episodes up that a Blu-ray set of such compromised material has been possible at all. There is no better tv that was created than Doctor Who and the Classic series has stories that made you think but also wished you were part of the adventures in time and space. It’s a pity BBC Video couldn’t strike a deal with Reeltime Pictures, who did a similar thing many years featuring Jon Pertwee, Nicholas Courtney and director Christopher Barry – all sadly no longer with us. Season 8 is a collection of big, brash, colourful romps, the Season 7 template softened by the introduction of warmer and more intriguing regular characters (although there’s an argument to suggest that The Master, appearing in every serial, becomes a little overused). Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 8 - 3rd Doctor - Jon Pertwee - 8 Disc Blu-ray Box Set New Sealed.

Battling Autons, Axons, an alien mind parasite and a mighty Daemon, the Doctor, Jo and UNIT must defend the Earth – and its future pioneers - in five action-packed adventures. Either wisely or unwisely (opinions differ), Letts and Dicks elected to include the Master in every story in Season 8, the only time in Doctor Who’s long history that a recurring villain has cropped up in every story of a season (unless you count the Valeyard, which personally I don’t). If you are a fan of the 3rd Doctor and Classic Doctor Who in general and don't have the dvds that came out but want a physical copy then this set is for you. Over the whopping EIGHT discs there is a wealth of additional features; studio footage, treats from the archive including BBC production files, convention footage, photo galleries, scripts, costume designs and even more. Another new feature is Devil’s Weekend which takes actors Katy Manning and John Levene back to the village of Aldbourne, location for The Dæmons 50 years after it was recorded. The Claws Of Axos sees the aliens The Axons arrive offering to help humanity but The Doctor suspects a trap while The Master is trapped on their spaceship in an excellent 4 part serial.
