About this deal

Here are just some of the exercises you can perform with the Bowflex 2080, with more than enough resistance: biceps curls, triceps extensions, overhead press, upright rows and even bent over rows. The list really just goes on and on.

Built with integrated Bluetooth® smart technology, you can record sets, reps and weight, all while syncing with your favourite Apps. The free Three Dimensional Trainer (3DT) App offers pre-loaded workouts and over 70 step-by-step coaching videos for optimum performance during every training session. The 5lb-52.5lb weight range is likely to be more than enough for most exercisers taking part in HIIT or resistance training. However, if you’re a seasoned lifter, the brand also makes the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 adjustable dumbbell, with an increased weight range of 10lb-90lb (4kg-41kg). Since there is a weight extension option, it’s possible to move the cradles further out on the frame, but instead of having screw holes for the standard and the extended position, you need to slide the cradle into place and then tighten the screws. This is a fiddly process and you might end up having to adjust the cradles by trying to fit the weights on them; not ideal.

Saying that, I found myself avoiding lifting the Bowflex SelectTech 840 kettlebell over my head. The thought of dropping 15 kilograms-worth of weight plates on my face during kettlebell pullovers didn't seem appealing, even thought I knew it was not likely to happen. Featuring durable molding around the metal plates, the dumbbell is both hard-wearing and delivers a smooth lift off. No more clanging of metal! Adjustable dumbbells are a valuable investment as they combine several weights, are easy to store, and mean that you can increase the load between exercises or gradually as you get stronger. They are expensive, but a set of the SelectTech 1090 might be the only weights you ever need. Should you buy the Bowflex Selecttech 2080 barbell? Admittedly, it is not the cheapest home gym equipment but if you’re happy to pay the premium, you’ll get a barbell that was designed for home use and will even provide a sense of progression, thanks to its adjustable nature. It’ll definitely take up less space than a standard Olympic barbell and weight plates.

The Bowflex weights are easy to use, too. Dials on either end of each dumbbell are labelled with the 15 weight options – we tested the UK version, so these were 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 18, 20, 23 and 24kg. The dumbbells’ 15.8 x 9 x 8-inch footprint (when maxed out to full weight capacity) is somewhat bulkier than old-school steel dumbbells, but each one is fully adjustable between 5 and 52.5 pounds in 5-pound increments. Swapping out those mini-weight plates is as simple as twisting the knobs on either end of the dumbbell to the desired weight, and you’re good to go. A safety strap connects the dumbbells to the dumbbell tray, which takes a 7/64 Allen key to remove. The plastic finish on the plates and the chunky rubber handle give it a cheaper feel than its metal competitors Individual warranty durations ranging from one to three years after the expiration of the manufacturer's warranty / guarantee Even for a relatively tall person like I am, the Bowflex SelectTech 840 kettlebell sometimes felt bulky and in the way, especially when doings kettlebell abs exercises. Not the end of the world, but if the plastic shell was a bit more compact, that would most certainly help to elevate user experience.

When things sound too good to be true, they often are. To make sure this wasn’t the case, we put the Bowflex SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells through a weights at home workout. And, by the end of the session, our muscles were fatigued and our mind was made up: this is a quality product that can certainly be counted among the best adjustable dumbbells. To discuss build quality, we must break down the Bowflex 2080 into three separate parts: the bar itself, the weight selector and the frame/weight cradle. The weight plates in the Bowflex SelectTech 840 kettlebell do rattle a bit when swung around, not enough to cause alarm, but since the bottom of the bell is open, it might make some people uneasy to perform kettlebell swings in front of their new 8k TVs. The Bowflex SelectTech 552s are a neat bit of kit, with their clever, compact design offering the widest selection of different weights (15) of any adjustable dumbbell we tested. This makes the fact they measure just 15.8in by 8in all the more impressive. Enjoy the versatility of a free weights work station in the comfort of your own home with the Bowflex SelectTech super heavy dumbbells. With an adjustable weight range of 4-41kg, this single pair of dumbbells delivers the same results as 17 sets of weights – but without the clutter!Better still, the weight range is perfect for arm exercises, something the curl bar is especially suited for.
