About this deal
The instrumentals may not be that great in isolation but most of them sound amazing with Mos Def's vocals on top of them. "Ms. Fat Booty" has the replay value of a sex tape with Jessica Alba and Angelina Jolie doing it, "Hip-Hop" is what Hip-Hop is all about, "Mathematics" is captivating in its own way, and "Know That" creates an adrenaline rush. Songs like "Umi Says" and "Climb" are here to calm you down and if the world was to really end today, I'd play the former to keep me happy as an alien shoots me from behind. I also have to mention "Speed Law" which is my favorite Mos Def song, period. Most rappers put emphasis on the rhymes that end a line, but Mos is doing it on words that start it and he changes the melody of his voice often and good enough to make "entertaining" a pale adjective. He manages to sound like ten different ways all at the same time, and on top of that he's a very decent singer which makes your ear feel greatful like a homeless person getting the pink slip of a brand new Bentley.
