About this deal

Banjo-"I can't believe we finally reached the point when both Sonic 2D and 3D games are solid 😂." Haha yeah its taken a long time for us to get there. We are in the good times! I understand that with Origins, Sega is thinking mostly of the classic 16bit platform titles, but that lead to people asking for the 8bit platformers too. I'd have been happy with just that, it makes sense as a bundle. I completely understand that you don't see the appeal in most Sonic games, though you did state that you like Mania, so perhaps your quabble is more related to Sega's recent quality control and strange decisions. But if you are interested in reading a detailled explanation of why I feel that 2D Mario and 2D Sonic are equally good but for completely different reasons (and why the "negative points" that most fanboys point out about each series are actually strengths, to their individual audiences), I wrote about that here: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2023/06/sonic-superstars-release-date-might-have-already-been-revealed#comment7672908 For me, the NES is almost more like something I revere as the ("proper" home console) origin of some of my favourite series - Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Kirby, Castlevania, Contra, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy... but all of those series were massively improved over time on later hardware, meaning I don't feel like revisting the original titles as often. Mario 3 and Kirby being the exceptions. But there is undeniably something really iconic and cool about the NES, the aesthetic and design of the console, controllers, zapper gun. Its shorthand for "gaming"... but probably because of the huge American infleunce in Western culture, especially English speaking media.

In any case, this is an excellent way of accessing all Sonic Game Gear games on modern hardware. I just want Sega to include the Master System versions as well, because most people admit that they are clearly better.

And thank you, I'm sure you will like Hazel! Haha. Her first game is "The Timeless Adventures of Hazel Witch" and yes, its being made for Xbox One/Series, PS4/5, Windows/MacOS/Linux, and (of course) Switch. It will definitely get a physical release on Switch and a "big box" retro PC version. I hope it gets physical on Xbox and PS as well but thats less likely as vastly more people use those systems digitally. Its definitely my biggest and most ambitious game, its likely the other 3 non-Hazel games I'm working on will come out first, they are simpler more arcade-like experiences. Basically, yes, Sonic Generations on Series X and Windows is king. Sonic Frontiers being polished and taken care of is as promising as unusual. I can't believe we finally reached the point when both Sonic 2D and 3D games are solid 😂. Banjo- Hey no problem! Glad you found it interesting, if you can't tell I'm a complete nerd for this kinda stuff. I recently watched the Gtv documentary on Kirby's Adventure - I remember thats the first NES game I saw in a shop kiosk that "wow'ed" me - and its amazing just how far it was pushing the system past what it was designed for. Hopefully that's enough info to whet your whistle! Thanks again for your lovely message, it really made me happy to read.

Apart from some news for Sonic Frontiers and the upcoming Sonic Superstars this week, Sega has also rolled out a brand new patch for its retro compilation Sonic Origins Plus. a b Skrebels, Joe (May 27, 2021). "Sonic Central Stream: Everything Announced, Including a Brand New Sonic Game". IGN. Archived from the original on January 30, 2022 . Retrieved April 20, 2022. I think the reason the Universal Nintendo areas were made possible by the fact that Mario has been such a consistently well known and loved franchise/character for nearly 40 years, so kids, teens, parents, even gran parents have a fondness for the brand. Its like Disney, its just a universal of most people's childhoods. Of course, Sonic has been around for much of that time too, and always been popular with kids because of the constant release of new tv shows, but the games having mixed quality means that a lot of the kids grow up to become parents and while their kids are liking sonic, some parents are less enthusiastic because they fell out with Sonic at somepoint as a teen or an adult playing a game they didn't like. DonkeyKongBigBoy Agreed... but... its never been re-released, anywhere. Never included in any compilation, nor sold as a rom on steam, etc etc. This is why mosy people, myself included, would like to see it included alongside other games. Sure, its very flawed, but it has things to like about it, the graphics, the music, the new characters.
