Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. In 2005, Mack presented They Think It's All Over, a sports-based comedy panel game, formerly presented by Nick Hancock. Even the fact he has a stage name – he was born Lee McKillop – helps separate the professional life from the personal. As I read both biographies I felt as if both David and Lee, were sitting, relaxing and talking directly too myself.

Biography: BAFTA-award-winning Lee Mack is one of the UK's most recognizable and celebrated comedians. Mack has polished this narrative until it shines, and his book is a joy to read, full of homespun wisdom and hilarious asides. The voice used is most definitely Lee Mack's with its characteristic sarcasm and the need to say something that can then be better explained wittily. You can almost hear the fasten seatbelt sign ding on as the plane gets ready to relax into it’s final descent. They're certainly good for a laugh - as is the entire book - with a few echoes of some Not Going Out gags.

In February 2009, Mack, along with other British entertainers, signed an open letter to The Times regarding the Baháʼí Faith leaders then on trial in Iran. That sometimes comes at the expense of sincerity, but he generally gets the balance right to produce a frank picture of a man who can’t believe his luck, but still manages to keep his feet on the ground. That was a clever way of revealing a little bit of Lee Mack’s psyche, whilst playfully trying to hide his true self behind this play of him being on the couch. It's not Dickens or Shakespeare and that's why (just in my opinion) there's a real easy going feel to the book. It’s strictly a “how I got into comedy” with a bit of psychoanalysis thrown in book, and so does not go into family life or much else.

I loved the humour and his honesty and the fact that he didn't edit out anything that may put him slightly in the shade. After a number of short-term jobs he wound up working in a bingo hall, and finally Pontin’s – showbiz at last. I am a big fan of Lee Mack's work and throughout the book I could imagine him telling the amusing anecdotes which added to the enjoyment.

stars not 5 because I would have liked this mate to have presented his story in a more gripping fashion. But if you are indecisive, don’t know where you’re heading, or have no idea how to really get there, this book is for you. It’s all part of his approach that comedy is career like any other, albeit much more rewarding, and, unlike some of his peers, he wants to enjoy a life away from it too. He recognizes that he (as well as many comedians) value the trait of being funny as more important (and sometimes it is the only important trait) than anything else, like being kind or loyal.

From 2014 to 2017, Mack presented Duck Quacks Don't Echo, a comedy-based panel show for Sky1, with various celebrity guests. His first sitcom Not Going Out for BBC One with Tim Vine (in which he plays Lee, the leading man) premiered on 6 October 2006. He thought and continues to mention throughout the book that he wrongly thought comedy was for special people. I started reading this back at the beginning of March and have taken until now to finish it but don’t take this as a reflection on the book at all. Even Lee Mack says he only does one half of a standup show (meaning no intermission) because that’s more than enough to ask of people to sit through listening to one person.

In Mack The Life, Lee tells the story of how he got there and gives extraordinary insight into what really makes comics tick.
