I’m right-handed, so if I’m writing really close to the right side of a page on the left side of the layout (say that five times fast), then the discs will make it harder. Inspired by last week's color-coordination of my pens, I decided to pro-actively set-up supplies for my journal for February. This lets me know at a glance that I have a meeting, but I don’t have to squash all the information into the box, which ends up a hot mess by the end of the week. The high quality of our sheets means that they can be inserted and removed without damaging the paper.
Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. A while back, I told you about discovering discbound notebooks and how much I love their ease and practicality. Instead of using rings like a traditional 3-ring binder, it uses a series of discs to keep the pages bound together.
Not only do you get a more sturdy discbound system – no wobbling – but you also have the huge benefit of the discs being protected inside the leather notebook. The holes on the TUL punch don’t go in as deep as the others, but other than that I haven’t seen a difference.
These notebooks are the same as the previous Novel plain paper notebooks, but are now bound with our new 20mm binding rings as standard. It’s totally understandable, but for someone that’s looking to use the bullet journal system of note taking for work, the lack of resources really doesn’t help.
The issue with paper tearing or folding with repeated removals and insertions can be remedied with a piece or two of invisible tape. Since the paper is punched along the edge, rather than a hole through the paper like a ringbound planner, pages can be added or removed with having to pop open rings and snap them closed. This creates a luxe glass-like effect while in use, and the frosted back provides increased durability.
I use them to mark my Monthly, Weekly and Daily pages, but I use a separate metal ruler for my actual line work. Again, I have set up my Discbound to work for me within the needs I have during any given business day. One of the biggest downsides to notebooks is that if you lose them, and someone else gets a hold of it, there’s just no security. Having a lot of doodles, decorations and fancy lettering on your pages might tell your boss that you have too much time on your hands, or at least your work isn’t top priority. Have an A4 notebook for meetings, but keep a few A6 sheets on the front for quick corridor notes, or scribbling down something to peel off for someone else.
Discbound planner systems are built on a similar principle to a standard ringbound planner except instead of a hole punched along the edge of the page to attach the paper into a binder, the discbound system uses discs that have grooves cut into them to hold onto the paper.Like the monthly view, I indicate the presence of tasks due with the exclamation point, and those with a time due, the exclamation point with the time the task is due. You will have two options: either just a junior size and use more pages faster, or get the full size version and use it like any other notebook. Exposed disc covers are available in a wide array of materials from leather to paperboard and plastic. With business bullet journaling, if you’re in a company like mine, you just don’t have the time to be really creative and fancy.
