About this deal

The ISOFIX introduction into vehicles began as early as 2002 in Europe. Manufacturers of child restraints, or baby car seats, were challenged with trying to get their product to work effectively in as many vehicles in the marketplace as possible. Alternatively, look for the ISOFIX identifier on the rear seats. Normally, these are the two outboard positions on the rear seat. They may also be found in the front seat of some vehicles.

First, what type of seat is appropriate for the age and size of your child? If your child is under 13kg and 85cm, they may use an infant carrier. Another option is a convertible car seat, which can grow with your child for a number of years. All Joie convertible car seats are suitable from birth. Convertible seats can then be used with the 5-point harness restraint until your child is 18kg or 105cm, at which point they should move to booster mode. A lot of people here question the quality because it's from China. A lot of things get manufactured there and are part of critical components. It's a metal piece. Can't really go too wrong with it. it’s a lot harder to stuff up the install of an isofix restraint and this is where I see it as a superior system. Read: How to install ISOFIX http://www.maxi-cosi.com/car-seats/car-seat-safety/choosing-a-child-car-seat/what-is-isofix/how-to-install-an-isofix-car-seat.aspx What advantages does it have over other such systems? ISOFIX points became mandatory in cars with four or more seats in November 2012, so any car manufactured after this time will definitely have it. Many carmakers have been fitting ISOFIX points for far longer than that; numerous cars from the 2000s have ISOFIX. That includes a 2003 Renault Megane, a 2006 Honda Civic and a 2009 Ford Fiesta. A notable exception is the 2004-2011 Ford Focus (and the related Ford C-MAX).Choose a car seat that clearly shows how the seat belt must be positioned. This will reduce the risk of using it incorrectly. All cars manufactured since November 2012 have to have top tether anchor points, but some much older cars will have them, too. What is Isofit?

When securing the top tether, it’s vital to make sure you’re attaching the strap to the correct anchor point in your car, as sometimes a tether point can be mistaken for a headrest stem or luggage tether fixing (neither of these are meant for use with a child car seat and aren't designed to withstand the forces of a crash). There has recently been a lot of buzz around safety in a car with people actually taking NCAP rating seriously. This made people switch from unsafe cars to robustly built cars. But there is still a very important aspect to this whole safety spectrum that we ignore, that is child safety. Isofix child seats It is a metal attachment that is built into your vehicle’s seating by the car manufacturer. This attachment matches corresponding ISOFIX ‘fingers’ found on children’s car seats designated ‘ISOFIX seats’.They’re not designed to absorb the forces of a car crash, but are used to keep the seat in place when it’s not in use, as an unsecured child car seat becomes a very heavy projectile in an accident. Isofit connectors are more like large hooks on the end of flexible arms or sometimes straps (rather than the rigid arms of Isofix connectors).

Child seats, just like a motorcycle helmets, are rendered useless after an accident. This is irrespective of whether the child is in the seat or not. Child seats are usually tested for use in the event of a single crash only, and there’s uncertainty about how the restraints would perform in a subsequent crash. Owners should replace the child seat in case the car meets with an accident. The favourite question of Indians: How much is it gonna cost? Parents can still use a child seat that attaches using the seat belt, but with Isofix offering a more reliable connection and greater stability and protection in a side-on collision, it makes sense to go for a seat (and car) with Isofix. The tether stops the car seat pivoting forwards in a crash and helps absorb some of the crash forces. As mentioned, installation systems for child restraints are either three-point static safety belts or ISOFIX.

How do I know if my vehicle has these ISOFIX units?

i -Size does NOT replace the current legislation, however. Learn more about car seat legislation and find out how we, as Maxi-Cosi, stay up to date with the latest car seat laws.

A top tether is a fabric strap that’s used to help secure a baby car seat (or extended rear-facing car seat) to a tether anchor point in the car.

A: ECE R44/04 is the older car seat testing regulation for Europe, and ECE R129 is the newer standard that was ratified in July 2013. ECE R129 and ECE R44/04 have been running in tandem for the last 9 years, but as of September 1, 2023, ECE R129 will become the only standard under which car seat manufacturers may certify car seats for sale in Europe. One year later, on September 1, 2024, brands and retailers in the UK and EU will be required to cease the sale of any car seat certified under the ECE R44/04 standard. I'm going to explore these mounts. Only problem is that i'll have to buy three (one for each car) and have to change the child seat as well!
