Emollients - NHS

Eczema can be managed with moisturisers known as emollients. Emollients are medical moisturisers, which soften and soothe dry skin. Emollients create an artificial layer on the skin to trap moisture in the surface of the skin, as well as attracting moisture to the skin surface. There are many different types of emollients and you can find out more about them here. Simpson C, Newton J, Hippisley-Cox J, Sheikh A. Trends in the epidemiology and prescribing of medication for eczema in England. JRSM. 2009;102(3):108-117.If you are using this product to help treat diaper rash, clean the diaper area well before use and allow the area to dry before applying the product. Most emollients can be used safely and effectively with no side effects. However, burning, stinging, redness, or irritation may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
