About this deal

BTW, the floor has been insulated with 100mm celotex and all joins and joists covered in aluminium foil tape. Chipboard shouldn’t be in contact with too much water in the first place since it’s not waterproof and can swell with moisture, even when it’s sealed. In several places I have cut new chipboard for a better fit but some of the old bits are very long runs, with a 3/4mm gap in places - can I seal between them with silicon - I may want to remove the boards in the future so don't want to use a glue or adhesive.

I'm thinking yacht varnish, which I know may need to be left overnight to dry for each of maybe two coats. If finishes or adhesives were applied during the installation, allow the chipboard flooring to dry completely before subjecting it to heavy traffic.

You should identify any protruding chipboard screws, uneven surfaces, or other issues that may require correction. Quote from: Packard on November 07, 2022, 05:27 PM On a similar thought (but a different application), I see people caulk around the base of newly installed toilets. Different types of sealants go with different materials, but you may have heard some recommend using PVA for chipboard.

Apart from cleaning and restoring walls if necessary, it is essential to use the correct sealers and primers to guarantee the best finish. We offered clients the option of using Extira or marine ply for the base of sink cabinets, with plastic laminate that matched the melamine. Aluminium sealer spirit based primers and sealers are used to prevent materials leaking into subsequent coverings. Three years later the daily mopping had taken a toll, and the edge banding was peeling off in spots. This also ensures adhesion of solvent-based polyurethane, water-based polyurethane, lacquer and other clear finishes.

You can use PVA to seal the chipboard, but only on surfaces that won’t be exposed to too much moisture. Picked up a few bits from an exhibition today including some ballast, and ballast spreader, syringes so I now have the necessary bits for ballasting. Before applying tiles across the entire surface, perform a small test area to ensure proper adhesion of the tiles to the chipboard. ok, as I was blabbing here I reached over to my test piece to ponder and dug my nails in to try and lift banding. I'd quite like to build in the flexibility to be able to break and remake the joint in future if I decide to put a joint in the other end of the worktop to change the kitchen from an L shape to U shape. Understanding best practices for cutting, fastening, finishing and reinforcing chipboard enables it to be worked with efficiently.

When I take a knife to get under banding more glue stays behind on unsealed side, though I'm trying to dig down, with only the pvc coming off. It is recommended for interior woodwork such as paneling, moulding, trim, windows, doors, cabinets, furniture and toys. I wanted to drop the pipes under the joists and insulate but we have a little girl and time doesn't allow just now but in the future I will do that! Alkali resistant primers are used to prevent alkali content present in some materials from attacking oil paints.Barclays will shut at least another 77 bank branches throughout 2024 and 2025 after announcing 20 more closures. Hi I am sure there are many many different ways to do what your trying to do but ultimately start with the worktop joint . Far from the ghastly shades and quality of the 50's - 60's - 70's, you can now lay vinyl which is antislip, hygienic, and comes in so many textures / patterns, some of which are truly amazing and you need to touch them to believe they are not stone / porcelain/ wood / metal etc. Hopefully these are self explanatory - front (showing oven next to the cabinet); underside (of the bench top where gaps for oven ventilation); underside with light (showing rough underside surface by a torch light); particles (crumbled particles from the underside when rubbed gently with hand). We just glued down the back edge and continued to heat and bond around the front edge to the back on the other side.
