About this deal

The shell of the Grasshopper is designed using ABS plastic as opposed to the polycarbonate body of the Hornet. The Hornet, Tamiya’s 45th model produced, was one of Tamiya’s iconic and best-selling RC vehicles ever made. The Tamiya Hornet is perfect for those that used to have one, those that have always wanted one, and for those that want a revolutionary buggy that has earned its place in R/C history. The box. I was pretty intimidated by its contents, so many parts that need to be put together, and even a bodyshell and driver figure to be painted. I felt like being thrown into cold water.

Just like the original, this re-release features an easy to assemble chassis and drivetrain. The Hornet is perfect for those that used to have one, those that have always wanted one, and for those that want a revolutionary buggy that has earned its place in R/C history. its probably easier to build than the hornet, much tougher, will handle brushless power, bigger battery tray and parts are pennies for it. The decals are pretty iconic too. During the 1980s, each Tamiya buggy came with a special slogan, and for the Hornet of course it’s “Anytime, Baby!”. This just added to the car’s character and even little things – like the positioning of the bonnet number “7″ off a bit to one side – are just little touches to add a bit more individuality. I’ve always really loved Tamiya’s own descriptions of their vehicles, and here’s one of the official Hornet summaries…I did the double wishbone conversion using Pintopower's 3D-printed AMPRO parts. This helps against bump steer to keep the car in a straight line when doing jumps or just going over rough terrain. More on that here. For the finishing touches and a good paint for your newly constructed model, Elitemodelsonline recommend Tamiya PS or Tamiya TS spray paints. Please note: These ‘ready to run bundles’ includes everything you need to operate this model once the kit is built. This is a kit which will require building. This model comes with a clear shell. Please see our Tamiya Paint range for colours available. The Hornet is an upgraded version of the Grasshopper. However, the Hornet and Grasshopper are similar in the fact that they are both two-wheel-drive off-road buggies. They also share identical features like the bathtub chassis.

Battery tray retainer for Hornet with no-tab trans: https://www.shapeways.com/product/KU6R78L27/battery-tray-retainer-for-hornet-with-no-tab-trans?optionId=59110649 Since the Hornet is an upgrade from the Grasshopper, it’s no surprise that they are incredibly faster than the Grasshopper since they can reach speeds as high as 43.4Mph. How fast is the Tamiya Grasshopper? The NiMHs turned out to be either dead right from the get-go or after just few minutes. So I thought "screw that unreliable crusty old stuff" and used the LiPo. Good choice. THIS KIT INCLUDES UPGRADED 3300MAH BATTERY, FAST MAINS CHARGER and SUPER STRENGTH METAL GEARED SERVO!The first time I ever saw a Tamiya Hornet in action was also the first time I ever saw a Tamiya. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old and my family had been invited to some kind of dinner party at a friend’s house. The friends in question were fairly well known people in the town where I lived, so there were quite a lot of people at this party – maybe 50 or so. The well-loved form of the model is created in a durable and lightweight polycarbonate body and wing

instead of the hornet (good car) a much better and more user freindly option would be say a holiday buggy or something on the dt02 chassis, this opens up a world of options for you for the future.I actually don’t have a built Hornet worthy of display just yet, so this article will feature images of one of my new-in-box original kits… diff gear loaded sealed gearbox, oil filled rear dampers, powerful RS 540 motor and high performance suspension system. Released on 4th May 1984, the Grasshopper had a bright green (grass-like) striping and angular body that gave it a natural aesthetic look of a Grasshopper insect. As with the Hornet, the Grasshopper was a 2WD 1/10 scale off-road buggy Baja that was rugged. However, it was one of Tamiya’s most affordable buggy at 7400 Yen when released. x 17ml Vallejo model paints. Vallejo paintsare supplied in plastic bottles of 17ml with an eyedropper device which keeps paint from drying and prevents spills. The model color range has been specifically developed for adherence on difficult surfaces such as metal and plastic, but the product is not toxic, not flammable, and does not give off noxious fumes.
