Who is the real Fergus McGonigal? Come along to our poetry showcase, which includes a ‘sign-up on the night’ open mic, to find out. Our MC for the evening will be local poet Gary Carr.Poetry Open MicGARY CARR will lead the festivals poetry highlight with an open mic night from 7:30 - 9.30pm on Saturday. Gary has been writing and performing in the Midlands and North of England for more than fifteen years and has more than sixty published poems. He has organised Spoken Worlds open mic night in Burton-on-Trent for ten years, most recently he created “The P Word…” which is a monthly event at Burton’s Brewhouse Arts centre. Poetry Showcase: The Real McGonigalAt 9.30pm, the evening will be rounded off with a special guest appearance by poet FERGUS McGONIGAL. Fergus McGonigal is a multiple poetry slam winner and former Worcestershire Poet Laureate who has had four collections of poetry published.Having left teaching 7 years ago, Fergus has worked with, among others, Poetry on Loan, Worcestershire Museums, the Worcestershire Litfest and Fringe, and The National TrustHe has been described as ranty, absurdist, accessible and funny, while his most recent collection shows a more reflective side.His sets are captivating and he is "an utterly, astonishingly brilliant headline act" (Nina Lewis).He's delighted to be featuring at the main poetry event at this year's Repton Literary Festival.
