About this deal

I may have to add a some extra length to the bottom to make the siphon function but, frankly, as it is, I can’t always get the Aqueon to siphon, given the lousy water pressure here, so, not really a deal breaker if it won’t siphon very well.

But it soon became apparent – the hose of the Aqueon water changer kinked easier than the other water changers we tested. I’ve also broken one gravel tube, the threaded male end snapped right off the tube and the plastic compression nut started to disintegrate so the hose kept slipping off it. While other weekly water changers use a similar design, their plastic components felt flimsy compared to the Python water changer. If you have small tanks that only require a few 10 litre buckets of water then no, probably not really worth it.This product also comes with a faucet pump that is intended to help you immediately create a vacuum that will absorb the water by itself. I couldn't find it but my husband did and then we just leave the brass part there so I don't have to mess with it anymore lol. It soon became apparent that while some gravel vacuums performed noticeably better than others, every gravel vacuum we tested was capable of siphoning water from the aquarium. At times, you even intentionally delay changing the water because you simply do not feel like doing the task at once.

You know the routine…Every week filling up large buckets of tank water, trying to carry them through the house, all the while spilling the dirty water all over your floor. If you strip these extras away, you are left with a perfectly sized gravel vacuum for small aquariums, one of the best on the market. Once successfully unkinking the hose, the angled tube required me to hold the gravel tube on an angle when cleaning gravel, making it difficult to control in smaller tanks. The only alternative I can think of is using the hose to run water to a large bucket, where you hold the water. I’m actually building a DIY changer that’s going to end up costing more than a 100′ Python kit, but, with just a shred of luck, my DIY model should last me forever.
