About this deal

The 60fps footage from the main camera is richer in detail and that's probably because there is no EIS involved like on the 30fps clips. The Honor 9X Pro is powered by the 2.27GHz octa-core Kirin 810 processor, which is interesting because it’s not one we’ve tested before. That’s not as weird as it sounds. Kirin is also owned by Huawei, so the chips typically only appear in the company’s own handsets, be they Huawei- or Honor-branded. This is the follow up to the rather good Honor 9X. As you might expect, the word Pro means it comes with more processing grunt, with the Kirin 710 processor subbed out for a 2.27GHz octa-core Kirin 810. The 6GB RAM remains the same but there’s also a generous 256GB of internal storage, which itself can be expanded via microSD cards. Just next to the fingerprint sensor is the tri-lens camera array. It’s housed in a bump, but it’s a small bump compared to similar mounts on other phones, and wasn’t as inconvenient as a result.

Here's a glimpse of how the Honor 9X Pro compares to rivals in our Video compare tool. Head over there for the complete comparison. Neither phone does a brilliant job with portrait mode enabled. The Pixel 3a crops too wide, including some of the building behind me in the non-blurred area, while the 9X crops too closely, trimming the sides of my head and part of my ears. I don’t really like either one because of these faults, but if I had to choose a favorite, I’d side with the Pixel 3a again. The two phones fare well with normal selfie shots. The Pixel 3a does its normal post-processing magic and gives me a healthy looking skin color while the Honor 9X shows my face in its more natural state. The scene behind me looks much better on the Pixel, though, which helps sway my opinion in its favor in this case Join the HONOR Community, an official HONOR club where you can share information, get support and advice from other HONOR users. Shooting in 48MP AI Ultra Clarity takes about six seconds and each photo eats up about 20MB, but if you want superior quality - this is the way. This 48MP AI mode works only with abundant light and you must switch to it manually from settings. Finally, the electronic stabilization is always-on and does a very good job. We would appreciate an option to turn it off though. You can’t really argue with the results for the price, with the Honor 9X Pro punching above its weight in terms of image quality and detail. But demosaicing is something a lot of phones can do and probably that's why Honor is trying to one-up those with the 48MP AI Ultra Clarity option, which improves the photo quality through supersampling. It takes six seconds to snap a single photo and you must keep the phone steady, but it will be worth it. The 48MP AIUC samples have much more detail than the regular 48MP images and if you downscale these to 12MP - those are superior in detail to the regular 12MP shots, especially in high intricacy areas such as foliage. Samples coming up in a bit!The regular Honor 9X is pretty much indistinguishable from the Motorola and Xiaomi handsets, but the Honor 9X Pro pulls clear on Geekbench in both single-and multi-core testing. Impressive. Various connectivity options on the Honor 9X Pro include WiFi - Yes Wi-Fi 802.11, ac/b/g/n/n 5GHz, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth - Yes v5.0, and 4G (supports Indian bands), 3G, 2G. Sensors on the Honor 9X Pro include Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope. Have you been wondering how HONOR 9A & HONOR 9X Pro run on Huawei Mobile Service (HMS) and if it's worth buying? For an affordable smartphone, the Honor 9X has a big screen. It’s a 6.6-inch display, which is a little on the large side for a smartphone, so unless you have rather big hands it may be hard for you to properly use the device.

The main camera uses a Sony IMX582 48MP sensor that has a Quad-Bayer array for pixel binning and the resulting image is 12MP in resolution. You can shoot in 48MP though, and under the right circumstances (good light), you will get a native 48MP photo - this is achieved through demosaicing (reconstructing by interpolation) the missing color information.Pro mode is available via the mode selector, and there you can adjust the parameters yourself - ISO (50 to 102,400), shutter speed (1/4000s to 30s), exposure compensation (-4 to +4EV in 1/3 stop increments), and white balance (presets and light temperature). Sadly though, performance is less stellar to my eyes. Not only does it seem to apply some pretty aggressive beautification settings, even when the settings are pushed to zero, skin tones take on a very light appearance. I’m pale, but I’m not this pale (middle is default, left is with beautification turned off, and right is with it set to max): Rear camera: Primary - 48MP, 27mm, f/1.8; PDAF; Ultrawide - 8MP, 13mm, f/2.4; Depth sensor - 2MP. Video recording up to 1080p@30fps.
