About this deal

The existing junction from the A66 on to Warrener Lane will be closed and removed. Traffic will join the new A66 via a link road to Moor Lane junction We plan to start work on Monday 19 June 2023 and aim to complete mid-October using a mixture of lane closures and full overnight closures. We will be working in both directions eastbound and westbound, but not at the same time. We're realigning A63 exit slip roads, westbound and eastbound and on Brighton Street roundabout for improved safety at the junction, leading to safer journeys.

Eastbound traffic approaching may not be aware that one lane at this junction is used for the A67 which reduces capacity and leads to last minute lane changes and slowing traffic on the A66 that present safety issues. Benefits We have completed the southbound carriageway and will now start work on the northbound carriageway, heading towards Moor Farm from Killingworth. The project will see the replacement of sections of the network that have served the area for more than 100 years, alongside new stretches of pipeline. We’re continuing with our preparation work along the pipeline route, and we’ve arranged a short-term road closure in conjunction with Durham County Council on the B6274 north of Winston, immediately north of the A67, and to the east of Barnard Castle. Impacts on farms and associated land and requires the demolition of two residential properties (Winthorn House and Dunelm). We are in ongoing discussions with all affected landowners
