To her city-eyes, the landscape of the Australian outback is harsh and unforgiving with no other signs of human life for hundreds of kilometres. The narrator and the author are both on the exact same wavelength and both nail the complex nature of our male lead as well as the strong willed Gemma. It was like I existed in a kind of parallel universe, thinking thoughts and feelings that no one else understood. As the book approaches its denoument, readers have three “patients” about whom to worry: Isla’s much-loved dad, the infectiously optimistic Harry, and the faithful and intrepid swan.I knew this from some stunning scenes in , but she really cemented herself as a favourite after Flyaway. Although I think it ended perfectly and just right to make me bawl my eyes out, I couldn’t help but wish for insight on the lives of the characters during and post trial. I’ve always been fascinated by wild Australian land and, when younger, my favourite memories are of camping in the bush and exploring the overgrown creek at the back of our first Melbourne house. this was incredibly messed-up and disturbing but still very much realistic which is a combo that is really difficult to create. It’s a story with no obvious or satisfactory resolutions but instead a convincing dive into human psychology; confused minds, stuck in the past, a tale of misguided love and revenge.

This was actually quite compelling to read and even as a reader I began to feel sorry for Ty making Gemma’s feelings all the more realistic. I have been eagerly following your updates on Release and am very excited to receive my copy (hopefully) soon in Canada! Best of all, however, it makes you think and question your own life and long for something inexplicable. The next weekend, Isla’s dad insists they go out again and try to find what happened to the swans, but on the path to the preserve her dad falls over with a heart attack. She studied for an MA in creative writing at Bath Spa University after which she became course director. My favorite reason TY IS AMAZING At the end, he chose to SAVE GEMMA and stayed with her when he could have just left her at the clinic and got away. I'm not sure that what Gemma did is fully representative of what a normal 16 year old would do, but I guess that what happened is what HAD to happen for the story.

Right around the time Gemma realizes she has some kind of feelings for Ty, something bad happens She gets bit by a poisonous snake and Ty has to take her for help. He has a whole life planned out for them both, thinking that Gemma would fall in love with him eventually. his eyes were the perfect blue, the kind of blue that sucks you in and pulls you under its spell before you realize it's too late. I loved how all of the motivations were thoroughly grounded in past history; we get a profile of the kidnapper as a human, not just as a stick figure.

It doesnt take her long though to understand that he has no intention to harm her and they start getting closer. All these threads weave together to create an emotional masterpiece, plain and simple, and what starts a bit awkwardly ends up transforming into a beautiful swan. She tries to escape, but Ty explains to her that there is nothing close, they are hundreds of miles away from any kind of civilization. The book may have been more powerful had we fallen in love with a man who was a little bit rough, a little bit forceful, a little bit cruel and yet Gemma depended on him for her survival.
