The side panels of the River 2 are featureless. It’s the front and rear faces where the main action happens. Front Panel But battery capacity isn’t the only measure of a power station’s usefulness. The other number to keep in mind is power output, which is measured in sustained watts. Despite its small size, the River 2 Pro produces 800W of power and can handle a surge of up to 1,600W. That’s enough juice to run 80% of household appliances, including a mini-fridge, an LCD TV, a fan, or a Wi-Fi router. It’s essential to keep in mind, though, that a solar panel rarely produces its rated power output in the real world. This is due to numerous factors outlined in the posts linked above. A good rule of thumb for estimating average electricity output is to assume your panel will produce 75% of its rated power during peak sunlight hours. RIVER 2 has an operating AC output of 300W (running watts) and a surge power AC output of 600W (starting watts) using X-Boost.

It has excellent charge speed compared with the competition (around 5x faster on mains input), a great display which accurately shows time remaining and percentage capacity remaining. We like the USB-C charging as well as the general ergonomics such as the colour and carry handle. OK, we’ve spent alot of time with the River 2 – is it a useful device? The answer is yes, as long as you’re aware of how little power you have on board.
The RIVER 2 Pro’s AC and DC power ports are all standards compliant, ensuring seamless connectivity with all photographic and video kits. But remember, its power output has a ceiling – attempting to run high-drain appliances like iron will cause it to trip. The amount of time that the RIVER 2 PPS can power your appliances between charges depends entirely on your appliances’ starting and running wattages and how many devices you run simultaneously.
