This is a minor criticism as I could of course use a separate dictionary, but it does seem strange for it not to cover the book's vocabulary. When it comes to mastering a foreign language, listening around your interests makes all the difference. As a beginner you need more side by translation of the audio, at least initially until a few key phrases have been properly learnt. From science fiction to fantasy, to crime and thrillers, Short Stories in Italian for Intermediate Learners uses reading as the perfect tool to not only delight in learning Italian, but to accelerate your journey towards fluency. I also felt like each new story really did increase in level so the achievement of completing a story never got old and there was a real sense of reward to continuing.

Often the host there would use words I was seeing in the book, and I like getting the pronunciation reinforced that way. Each story is in 3-4 chapters with useful vocabulary and a brief comprehension test at the end of each chapter. I credit this book, alongside the audiobook, with getting me over that advanced-beginner hump when I was learning Spanish. I do like the way Richards' book is structured with the reviews/questions/vocabulary in the back of each chapter. I was then able to understand enough of the story to use it as a godless comprehension practice and learn some new vocabulary. It is a lot of work to understand bits you're less familiar with but that doesn't matter as you will be understanding Spanish confidently in no time. Olly Richards speaks eight languages and is the man behind the popular blog: I Will Teach You A Language. They also choose not to translate a word in one story forcing you to have to look it up and then decide to translate it for you in a later story! I need that rereading opportunity; in fact, I have to study the vocab and reread a few times before I move on.

Our 30-Day Mastery series helps you master the trickiest, thorniest aspects of Japanese in the just 30 days, using our innovative, story-based immersion method. At the beginning of the book there's a strong emphasis on how reading and finishing each story is more important than understanding every word and to not stop to look up words, I found this really helpful and encouraging because I definitely am the kind of person who would have made the mistake of looking up what I didn't understand and getting frustrated and I'm really pleased that this method of powering through helps and that I understood a lot more than I expected to.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Barbara Oakley, PhD, Author of New York Times bestseller A Mind for NumbersShort Stories in Spanish for Beginners has been written especially for students from beginner to intermediate level, designed to give a sense of achievement, and most importantly - enjoyment! Yo creo que es un problema pequeña, en todos las capítulos unos hombres son muy fuertes, son exploradores, en casi todos son características primeras. A summary, glossary and 5 question quiz at the end of each section help test and consolidate your learning.Stephen Krashen, Emeritus Professor, University of Southern CaliforniaOlly's advice on language learning is the real deal, and I recommend you pay attention to what he has to say! I couldnt believe that i would be able to understand the spanish words but after a while i suddenly found myself actually reading and understanding most of the stories. The stories are actually really interesting and fun and had me gripped (except one that I had trouble understanding, but I was listening whilst doing things and I really should have looked up a word that kept cropping up! This part was kind of annoying because many of the boldface words were very simple and didn't need an english description, while several other words were not boldface but should have been (at least in my opinion), which meant that I had to keep my spanish-english dictionary nearby. This book is definitely a valuable learning resource and has helped to introduce me to a lot of useful new vocabulary and phrases.
