About this deal

Of the many test pairs sitting in my closet, I chose the Nike Odyssey Shield React for that four-mile battle against icy sidewalks and a sub-zero windchill. The shoes held up well on dry pavement and treadmill surfaces, but I did notice a lot of slippage on wet roads compared to other shoes. The upper “sticks” to your foot in a comfortable fashion, which is something I really appreciate in a shoe.

Not once did I ever feel any discomfort on any part of my feet, which is rare for a new pair of shoes. Of course, being the sort of person who tries to run outdoors at all costs, I had no intention of getting on the treadmill and instead opted to bring out my hardest-core winter gear. This in turn is reinforced with an outsole of Stormtread rubber, offering sticky, non-slip contact on wet pavements and tracks. We’ve written at length about Nike’s React foam, but the material still deserves to be mentioned for how it affects this shoe’s performance. I run about 50-60 miles per week, usually including a tempo run and a long run, and lift weights 4-5 times per week in addition to running.I can’t really say much other than that Odyssey React Shield 2 fit perfectly in just about every way you’d want. The Nike Odyssey React 2 Shield offers responsive cushioning with a soleplate that maximises traction in wet conditions, and a water resistant upper. As seen on the feet of sports stars and enthusiastic amateurs alike, today Nike continue their mission to “bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world”. These are benefits that you’ll receive on top of the perks you get already with each of your Pro:Direct Sport and Nike memberships. Initially named "Blue Ribbon Sports," Nike was founded in 1964 by Bill Bowerman, a University of Oregon track-and-field coach, and his former student, Phil Knight.

There is only a slight difference in weight since the flyknit upper of the Epic React 2 is 10 grammes lighter. In the upper, thanks to the Nike Shield tech, this Odyssey React 2 edition gains a water-repellent membrane that keeps your feet always dry and protected. I run in their 2-in-1 Flexstride shorts, wear their Dri-FIT Miler shirts every day, and currently have the Pegasus 35 Turbo, Invincible, and Vaporfly as a part of my running shoe rotation. Sprinting is where Odyssey React Shield 2 performed the most poorly because they are simply too heavy and not responsive enough to be good for anything at a tempo pace or faster, and don’t even think about using these for a track workout.

A Storm Tread wet rubber outsole delivers optimal grip on wet surfaces while maintaining the smooth, cushioned ride you know and love with React foam. Hey everyone, I’m a relatively new (20 months) but passionate runner training for my first marathon. I think the upper is something that Nike does consistently well across all of their models except for the Pegasus Turbo 2, which I find a bit tight. With the flyknit upper it sort of made sense that they didn’t stitch the label onto the inside of the tongue, because the flyknit is quite form-fitting. Please do not use the `Remember me` option if using a computer with public access or that is used by more than one person. A water-repellent upper helps protect your feet from the elements with hazard striped reflective graphics for enhanced visibility. In my own testing of the shoe, I appreciated the React foam’s light weight and how it softened the surface below, even when running on concrete, without seeming to dissipate the energy I’d occasionally put out at tempo-level efforts.

The water-resistant and insulated Nike Shield upper kept my feet comfortable on that run, and it kept my feet dry the day prior when the the snow was coming down. Cool lacing system, very practical and adds a substantial amound to the futuristic aesthetic, since they kinda "stick" out of the shoe in a cool arc. Underpinning the Nike Odyssey React Shield 2 running shoe is a midsole made from React foam, which offers reliable impact protection over long, demanding runs. The Nike Odyssey React Shield 2 for men is a weather-resistant running shoe with tough, on-trend techwear style looks, just the thing for crushing a few miles on a typical British rainy day. I don’t think the Odyssey React Shield 2 was ever marketed to be a long-run or speed work shoe, but they don’t perform as such. The trainer has a thick, wavy tread, and each individual lug is finished off with a criss-cross channel to enhance grip and help the trainers to quickly shed moisture, so you don't have to worry about your feet becoming waterlogged. These include cookies that allow you to be remembered as you explore the site within a single session or, if you request, from session to session. By combining a snug-fitting upper that provides protection from cold weather and wet conditions with an easy-to-use, quick-pull lacing system, Nike created a winter trainer with a fit that can even be adjusted by cold fingers beneath thick gloves.
