About this deal

You have to go through all the books in continuity and skipping any one will just make a gap in the story. Jeffrey Archer, whose novels include the Clifton Chronicles, the William Warwick novels and Kane and Abel , has topped bestseller lists around the world, with sales of over 275 million copies.

MY THOUGHTS: Archer has crafted yet another cunning plot, with three interwoven threads; one involving a threat to HRH the Princess of Wales. While I am fascinated with anything about the British monarchy, this particular story captured my interest because of the time period. A member of the House of Lords for over a quarter of a century, the author is married to Dame Mary Archer, and they have two sons, two granddaughters and two grandsons. He is a very by the book’s kind of person (with the exception of maybe one incident that happened prior to the current action) and he hates any hint of corruption within the force so you can see how it goes against the grain for him to blend in with the Protection Command to get the evidence he needs. As I look at all of the glowing reviews Next in Line has, I ask that you take my review with a grain of salt. All the while, one of Warwick’s old nemeses is working through some legal issues all his own, wrestling for control as he seeks to get the upper hand on Scotland Yard.

In fact, during the last 50 pages, when everything comes to a head, I felt that I was just plodding along trying to get the book finished.

but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Running parallel to this is the story of a jailed criminal with an interest in fine art, and a private collection that would make many green with envy.

I whizzed through it, as it was fast paced and full of action, which kept me excited and eager to read on. They're very well written, so it must be that I'm just not used to the style (and the number of characters to keep straight). The fifth book in the series sees William Warwick and team getting involved with the protection of Royal family, precisely Princess Diana. Next in Line doesn't disappoint if you're a Jeffrey Archer fan, or even if you are reading him for the first time. The interactions between Warwick’s team and the royal family were fascinating, as was Diana’s encounter with young Artemisia. It’s not exactly what the blurb bills it as, and I found the different threads of the narrative a little confusing, particularly in the first half. Another enjoyable part was the antics of Faulkner’s lawyer, Booth Watson, to abscond with his client’s fortune. Intertwined with this is the story of Miles Faulkner, William's arch nemesis, and his fallout with his crook of a counsel Booth Watson. Trying to keep the peace so the general public is unaware, Warwick will have to diffuse the plot before things get out of hand.

Featuring Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his team, the story is set in 1988 in London.I appreciated the quicker pace of Next In Line compared to a couple of the earlier books in the series. DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Harper Collins UK, Harper Fiction, via Netgalley for providing a digital ARC of Next in Line for review. Archer proves that he’s got many ideas to share and I hope he’s able to finish this series before laying down his pen. Curling up with a book by Jeffrey Archer , for me, is guaranteed to be an entertaining afternoon of reading. His 2nd in command Di Ross Hogan is charged with looking after none other than Princess Diana Aka ‘The People’s Princess’.
