About this deal

Bridge to Teribithia' Essay Contest Offers Big Prizes to Students and Teachers Exclusively at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre from 2/16 – 3/29". Driven by the chemistry and performances of Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb, it ends up being an emotionally effective film about imagination and loss. Catsoulis found the film was able to handle adult topics "with nuance and sensitivity", and being consistently smart and "delicate as a spider web", it was the kind of children's movie "rarely seen nowadays".

Jess becomes angry with his father for his attitude toward him, and he loses his belief in Terabithia, refusing its existence the next day at school. With that in mind, they "tried to do the absolute minimum, which would be required to put it into a movie version". Bridge to Terabithia is a 2007 American fantasy drama film directed by Gábor Csupó from a screenplay by David L. As cheesy as this film is, someone was bound to mess up in this cast, but really, most everyone on the screen convinces in the character portrayals more so than the filmmakers do, and that especially goes for leads Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb, who share electric chemistry, bookended by individual charm and even a degree of effective dramatic layering.

I understand that this is for the very young, and it's not like a sense of wonderment and dramatic depth aren't captured relatively well at times, but on the whole, what could have and should have been a more genuine and tastefully done fantasy drama with both depth and style proves to be generally obnoxious and distancing, with overbearing sentimentality that don't so much reflect ambition, as much as they reflect that classic Disney laziness. While Paterson focused on "bringing out the emotions of the story," he admitted to having difficulty writing about Terabithia "because it was too close". Josh Hutcherson was not their first choice for the role of Jesse Aarons, but they settled with him because they "felt the chemistry between AnnaSophia Robb and him". Weta modified some of the creature designs, but ultimately remained faithful to Csupó's original designs. T. to Terabithia, where they fight off the Dark Master's creatures resembling their bullies, this time with the troll as their ally.I must say I did not see the second half of the film coming at all, it blew my emotional feelings in. Robb's character Leslie claims it's "a place just for them, where there are no Janice Avery's or Scott Hoager's (local bullies). He also said that he took on the role because he wanted to star in a film that his children could watch.

The Wall Street Journal critic Joe Morgenstern felt that despite the occasional misuse of enchantment—"brief spasms of overproduced fantasy"—the novel's screen adaptation was told with "agreeable simplicity in between computer-generated monsters". Jessica Grose of The Village Voice commended director Csupó for omitting "cutesy tween stereotypes", and felt Jess's relationship with his father elevated Bridge to Terabithia from "a good kids movie to a classic contender. As I just finished saying, there's potential to this story concept, but it's limited, offering a paper-thin conflict, and even little plays on the fantasy elements, until what you end up with is a fantasy flick and character drama that is lacking in flare, whose limitations could be easier to ignore if the execution wasn't so draggy. Entertainment Weekly 's Gregory Kirschling was confused by the main characters' lack of excitement towards Terabithia, and felt the film could not decide if it was "a fantasy or a coming-of-age story". Other good performances include Robert Patrick as Jess' dad and Bailee Madison as his little sister.Robb wrote Csupó "such a beautiful, heartwarming letter" that expressed her love for the book and the character. Paterson had difficulty marketing the screenplay, mostly because of Leslie's death; "if you can believe this, I did meet with some companies that asked if I could just 'hurt' Leslie a little bit—put her in a light coma and then bring her out". Although there is a generation that is very familiar with the book, if you are over 40, then you probably haven't, and we need to reach them. Puig found the real-life portions of the movie were "derivative and simplistic", but found Jess's emotional tumult felt "powerfully authentic, and this is where the film finds its truth and soul".

Though difficulties fill their ordinary lives, Jesse and Leslie rule as king and queen in Terabithia. Robb also conversed with producer Lauren Levine before casting even began, and "their conversation convinced her that, without a doubt, AnnaSophia was meant for this role". Overall, I found the movie very enjoyable, but I would advise parents of young children to find out more about the movie, before deciding on whether or not you'll let your kids watch it. It received positive reviews from critics, with praise for its visuals, cast performances, and faithfulness to the source material.Csupó noted that the two main characters are a little bit older in the film than they are in the book. As for the premise, two young outcasts who go to the same school befriend and find a rope that they swing on in the woods to get to a made up "kingdom" they named Terabithia.
