We sell several different field sharpening stones that can be kept in the pocket and used without oil to touch-up your blade while working. Instinctively, you keep things shave sharp and no one needs to tell you how to sharpen anything from a machete to scissors or the like. Whether you’re putting an edge on a new machete for the very first time, or touching up your blade in the field, we have the tips and tools for you.

Note: If there are large dings or other damage in the edge, a diamond or ceramic milling file or coarse sharpening stone will be needed to help bring a consistent edge to your machete. It has a durable, plastic head, soft-grip handle and an oversized finger guard for safe and secure sharpening at all times. To replace brush after use, insert bristles of brush into cavity first, then slide forward and push down until brush is fully inset in handle. Fragile edges tend to roll, chip, and go dull with less use than a knife with a more robust edge thickness. For a less expensive option, you can use a mill file or a heavy duty hone to give your machete its initial edge.

This can range from small gaskets or bushes to larger items such as bumpers, roof tents and storage drawers.

For light cutting of grass and vegetation, smaller blade angles of 25 degrees work best as they allow finer edges.

Apply moderate downward pressure and pull the sharpener over the cutting edge from one end to the other. Light pressure can be applied easily, and it is much easier to keep a straight edge with a belt sander than with a grinding wheel.
