Music quality isn't great, but that's to be expected given the size of the speakers; volume was quite good. But I think the software has been written to cover earlier devices that didn’t have to use HDMI Out, so you can set Audio mode to Stereo if you can’t get any sound on Auto. The spec of the JVC TH-D227B soundbar was exactly what I wanted - small, but a quality brand and well reviewed.

The only reason it does not get 5 stars is because the current model does not have an HDMI ARC connection - so, although it has digital co-ax and fibre inputs, you'll still have to use the analogue headphone output from the TV if you want to adjust volume from the TV remote.

It will be identical to your old remote with all of the required buttons, and controls all features just like normal. Before purchasing, I asked whether I cound stand the TV on top of this sound bar and everyone said no.

Most soundbars are much too long for this situation and many of the compact ones that are available are just cheap trash.I think your best bet is to set HDMI to PCM-Stereo for a quick result; if this doesn’t work, then also set Audio mode to Stereo. Stop Press: I got an optical cable out and experimented with my soundbar; like yours, the manual says it only accepts PCM, but no matter what I set on the Stick, it all still worked, so maybe my TV is busting the signal down to PCM, and yours isn’t. This works fine for me, but then I feed my soundbar from the headphone socket of the TV, so I can keep controlling the volume from the TV remote, so Optical Out considerations would be different. Press and hold to activate the pairing function in Bluetooth mode and disconnect the existing paired Bluetooth device.
