About this deal

Although I disagree with the author’s conclusions, his “erroneous” take-aways made me ponder the lives and events recounted in his book. His byline appears regularly in national publications including Men's Journal, Outside, and Women's Running. Both men had humble athletic beginnings and worked incredibly hard to earn their positions on the world's greatest triathlon stage. Iron War goes beyond the pulse-pounding race story to offer a fascinating exploration of the lives of the world's two toughest men and their unquenchable desire to succeed. One of Dave’s favorite swim workouts was a set of seven 500-yard intervals with a short rest period after each.

Iron War ] is a truly great read--and an ode to our sport with all its quirky characters and epic venues. While Fitzgerald absolutely did not convince me this was the greatest race ever, nor even in the top ten, this is a good read for anyone who is a fan of endurance racing of any variety. Every body can find something to claim their father was terrible, sad that this had to be the overriding theme of this book when in fact, but for his father's money and financial support, Mark Allen would not have been doing triathlons rather than working those first years. Don’t say I did not warn you about finding yourself training at 5 am in the morning, before work/school. The books featured on this site are aimed primarily at readers aged 13 or above and therefore you must be 13 years or over to sign up to our newsletter.I also would have loved more on the science of it all but perhaps like Dave Scott I just need to snarl that desire off because it seems the big lesson from his and Mark Allen's accomplishments is mind over matter. Iron War goes beyond the pulse-pounding race story to offer a fascinating exploration of the lives of the world’s two toughest men and their unquenchable desire to succeed. Iron War really a book that should be on your bookshelf if you have even the slightest interest in the sport of triathlon, but it also is a great read for anyone looking for inspiration in general. It shows true grit, competition, fierceness, determination and creates the sensation of hot lava creating heat waves around you.

From the author of the bestseller Eat and Run , a thrilling memoir about his grueling, exhilarating, and immensely inspiring 46-day run to break the speed record for the Appalachian Trail. uk/landing-page/quercus/quercus-company-information/">The data controller is Quercus Editions Ltd. Readers will come away with a very strong understanding and appreciation for two of the true legends of our sport. One about the race itself; one on the analysis of Dave and Mark; one on mental toughness training; and a bunch of smaller ones.Really, I work in IT and I've heard computer text-to-speech programs with more emotion during dialog than this loser.

Going into the 1989 race, Scott was by far the favorite, or at least had the more impressive of Ironman resumes. Donsky's narration was grating in voice quality, but worse, he used the wrong intonations with the words he was reading. Particularly interesting was just how different the two men were/are, with vastly different approaches to training and life. Nothing against Seth Michael Donsky, but I don't think his narration style was the best for this book. ForeWord magazine " Iron War is the very first time our sport has engaged in Krakauer-style journalism, where full-featured personalities are presented to readers without excuse, or pause, or an author's self-censorship.

He has enjoyed unprecedented access to professional endurance athletes over the course of his career. One of the worst of any audiobook I have listened to in 20 years (including back in the audio cassette days).
