About this deal

All the characters experience a transformation as a result of the events, and it is not all neat happiness. It is wonderfully intricate with 'normal' people as characters who you will want to gossip about alongside everyone else in the community! She loves Declan, and the double blow of losing him to his illness and losing her home as well, is devastating. But Declan has secrets that he can never tell, and Carol's indefatigable mammy isn't going to let things lie. I'll be checking out his backlist for more fun and I highly recommend this entertaining story to those who enjoy a blend of Family Fiction and Cozy Mystery that's on the darkly humorous side!

It just seemed so twisted and wrong to Sally that Killian was to become a father when he showed so little love for his own. It is a heartwarming story about finding your place in the world, even when things don’t go according to plan. Forever Home is filled with quirky characters, witty dialogue, heartbreaking realities of life and a powerful storyline of what one will do to protect their family, even when the family does not know they need protection. If there are secrets and rumours standing in the way of her daughter's happiness, she intends to confront them. This is a story about mothers and daughters: the love inherent in that bond and the heartache that miscommunication can bring. Fast forward several years and Declan is now in a home and appears to be suffering from Alzheimer's. She just wants a quiet celebration: her daily swim in the sea and a cup of tea with granddaughter Elin and great-granddaughter Beca.

At its heart is Carol, a quietly heroic late-fortysomething divorcee who finds love again with the much-older Declan. I was immediately drawn into what appeared to be a domestic drama about a man, his two teenage children and the "intruder" girlfriend who moves into their historic home in a small Irish town, Ballyteer. There is a great story here with a bit of a mystery and I enjoyed every minute of it whether I was laughing or crying. But life becomes more complicated when Declan becomes ill and his children get more involved in a family life they had little time for previously. There are plenty of references to the location - particularly in the phrases used by the characters. To her dismay, she discovers that the Barry siblings have put the house up for sale, despite it being their father’s wish for the house never to be sold. When Declan developed early onset dementia, his adult children placed him in a care facility and put the home on the market. It's wonderfully funny, yet a bit sad, filled with secrets galore, twists and turns in family dynamics and to what lengths a family will go to protect each other.
