About this deal

This revolutionary book reclaims feminism from consumerism through exploring state violence against women, reproductive justice, transmisogyny, sex work, gendered Islamophobia and much more, showing that the struggle for gendered liberation is a struggle for justice, one that can transform the world for everyone. It is a badly written rant with poorly defined concepts, scant development of ideas and argument, and an often inaccurate and confused understanding of political and social history. Feminism, Interrupted manages to be a primer for several areas of feminism such as prison abolition, sex work and transmisogyny while also being very thorough and in-depth. Kendall is often unsparing and honest about issues that aren’t related to racism, pointing out that colourism among black communities predated contact with Europeans. They seek not to eject white women from the movement, of course, but to point out how those women, because of their platforms and access, bury the needs of others.

It opens a set of relevant questions - most of them will be known to readers, but will be simplified through the author's sobering analysis. She is at her strongest and most refreshing when rejecting the fetishisation of black women for being strong or fierce or the embodiment of “ black girl magic”.a lot of attention is often placed on changing policy to legalise abortion, but that doesn't always lead to 'reproductive justice' for all women. She appears didactic, naive and arrogant in her dismissal of years of activism thinking and hard work by many people. I discovered her work through the Silver Panel on abolition where I was blown away by the clarity and depth of her argument. They are everyday people, navigating treacherous territory and often taking risks with no safety net.

What I also really liked about Lola Olufemi's work is it's grounding in the British experiences of women (particularly Black women) and facts relating to Britain. There will be no reverence here, no tiptoeing around mainstream feminism’s dreams, no grateful acceptance of a black space that is in the gift of white proprietors. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. i think it's especially great as a primer to feminist politics in the uk currently, but if you've already read about this subject quite a bit then it might not exactly be for you. These issues could all be standalone topics for a single book, but Lola Olufemi deftly weaved these topics together in a short, concise and incredibly accessible read to open up the discussion on all of these issues at once.

There are many more complicated demands to be made: mainstream movements will always defeat their own purpose as long as they consider the law as the sole indicator of progress. Olufemi takes her feminism so seriously that sometimes it compromises her authorial tone, rendering it drily determined; her work sometimes reads like a military pamphlet.Plastered over t-shirts and tote bags, the word ‘feminist’ has entered the mainstream and is fast becoming a popular slogan for our generation.

It's also not just about reproduction rights but how having children is often seen as solely "women's work" and the value of this unpaid labour.

An incisive work of Black feminism in Britain covering reproductive justice, trans inclusionary feminism, supporting sex workers, prison abolition, and—excitingly—art as witness. Membuat hal-hal tampak "mudah" padahal bagi kulit berwarna dan bukan ras kaukasian seperti Sandberg punya kesulitan dan hambatannya sendiri.
