About this deal

I also say “hardly” an expansion because three cards that are worth a collective two points with a stack of rat meeples hardly amount to radical transformation. Pearlbrook expands on the original worker placement mechanism by adding a special worker and several locations unique to that worker.

A substantial gameplay expansion, Spirecrest introduces travellers, weather and big critters to Everdell lore. When it was announced that publisher Starling Games had launched its latest crowdfunding campaign with the aim of bringing not one but two new Everdell expansions from designer James A. I still think plain old Everdell is a 10/10—with cardboard chits, the base cards, and the squishy berries. Or the white wolf known as Whisper, who can ignore the exclusive placement rule altogether that otherwise affects the various locations across the main board. You reveal the 3 cards in a row left to right, but if you want the middle card, you’ll have to discard a card or a resource, and if you want the card on the right, you’ll have to discard 2 of any resource/card combination.

Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan, not only because the weather cards make the game longer and more difficult, but also because the seasonal reward cards are so random. But in practice, I have yet to encounter a situation where it is unclear who is actually in possession of the mighty bear Honeypaw or the majestic white wolf Whisper to name but a few. The standard expansion ships with five of these Big Critter: Stubblehoof the moose, Honeypaw the bear, King Rhun the mountain goat, Whisper the wolf, and Windlore the eagle.

Along with these cards come the Big Critters, a unique type of worker with useful abilities and their very own meeples that are here to lend a hand to any intrepid adventurer brave enough to pass by.

Much like yourself, throughout the course of the game Rugwort will collect three atlas pieces which constitutes his future expedition. If we don’t have a game you are looking for it please contact us and we will do our best to help you. It is certainly the case that they force you to approach the game from a different point of view, finding new venues for collecting resources or playing down cards into your city tableau. It may sound somewhat simplistic but believe me when I say that these tweaks to the solo formula provides such a more enjoyable and interesting experience compared to the solitaire aspect of Pearlbrook. This makes for a fun end-game scoring mechanism, and provides motivation to manage your resources/cards meticulously at the end of the game so you can score some major bonus points.Adornments are great and really useful for squeezing maximum results from minimum resources but Discovery cards are better! If my favorite part of the expansion is the Discovery Cards, I’ll say that my least favorite is the Weather Cards. After each season, the rabbit progresses in the exploration, and you can choose a journey token from the few that are available.

And yet, this little pack introduces a mechanical element that seldom rears its head across every product in the Everdell family: take-that. I’ve not spoken of the Everdell for Everyone pack to this point, but the shift from Husbands/Wives to Harvesters/Gatherers is complete, with every card now bearing the new wording.Far from the safety of the Evertree, beyond the calm boarders of the meadow lie twisting paths and new locations just waiting to be explored, and now is the time.
