About this deal

There were some laugh out loud parts and a few relatable bits that we've all been through as parents! I’d recommend this to anyone who has embarked on the parenting journey only to wonder – even if only occasionally – what on earth they are doing. I give Drinking Custard Diary Of A Confused Mum By Lucy Beaumont (With interruptions from Jon Richardson) a Five out of Five paw rating.

The programme is not true, though I think many of the ideas and characteristics of Jon and Lucy are close. Soon Elsie the baby becomes the toddler, the bright child and all with a determination to sabotage sleep. The writing style is conversational and each section is broken up with different subheadings and the occasional aside. When I first heard about the book, I will be honest and say that Lucy’s name didn’t immediately ring a bell to me but the book sounded great. Though I suspect if you are and you're not sure if it's going well or not, then this book will help you to realise that there is no right or wrong.

It is not a straightforward account, it chooses high and low points, it probably exaggerates a little. It was interesting to hear about Lucy’s relationship with her parents and grandparents and how she feels these have impacted upon her relationship with her daughter Elsie. Lucy’s voice is warm and relatable, and I couldn’t help hearing it in her voice as I read, and the corrections and clarifications from Jon Richardson set the tone early on. There are so many moments in here that mums of any age will be able to recognise with their own life , the struggles , mishaps and hilarious moments that make the memories. I giggled when I read her list of Why I Want A Child as unless you have children you don’t grasp the reality of actually having children, messy, loud and a constant lack of sleep.

You see, we are participating in a rarely mentioned holiday ritual: winter break impacted wisdom teeth removal.

I think one think I appreciated about this book was there was no frills about how tough parenting can be; but it’s still the most amazing thing you can do! To be honest, I was sold from pretty much the first page when there was that Elizabeth Stone quotation about having children being like your heart walking around outside your body.

You could also try heating it again until it’s thicker–beat in an additional couple egg yolks, or even a whole egg first, if you’d like. This book was initially released on 30th September, 2021, and the paperback edition is due for release on 12th May, 2022. She has appeared on numerous entertainment shows; Artsnight (BBC2), Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier (Dave), Alan Davies’ As Yet Untitled (Dave), QI (BBC2), Drunk History (Comedy Central), Jonathan Ross Show (ITV), The One Show (BBC1), Cats Does Countdown (C4), What’s Going to Kill Us (C5), Live At The Electric (BBC Three) and featured in a Maltesers advertising campaign. She has a real knack for telling a story and I often found myself laughing aloud, occasionally with tears of mirth. While some say it tastes like eggnog, it really will remind you of creamy frozen custard, except in a drinkable form and it’s nice and warm. I always get nervous it’s going to boil on me and curdle the eggs and that’s when I know it’s hot enough.

She remembers stories of her own birth while her mother was on holiday, some points of which she sends to her mother some time later to clarify points of confusion - just to make sure that family legends are actually true.Divinity candy, Italian or Swiss meringue frosting, pure white cake, angel food cake, meringue cookies, combine with whole eggs and make your own Egg Beaters.
