Although I frequently struggle to relate to female protagonists as a male reader I made a concerted effort to this time and I am glad I did as i think it allowed me to gain a much better understanding of the book as a whole and of the characters , I enjoyed the plot line and the detail within the world which was clearly considerable , my favourite character was Lysander although I feel as though this will be a common occurrence among readers ( was getting serious LOKI vibes). There are cases where this sort of dubious age difference is effectively used (Shadow and Bone), but instead here we just have Electa telling me that she’s got the hots for both and not really convincing me as to why.I suppose it could be said that Mary was strong to have survived all that she did, and I suppose she must care about people to want to help other abused women.
