About this deal

So, at the beginning of this adventure mystery she finds herself moving to a house by the beach in Cornwall to live with Calvin Redfern, a man she has never met before. Her strong sense of loyalty and curiosity means that this series is bound to be as exciting and fun as this first adventure.

The ’Coast Paintings’ began their life as grey canvases which were laid on the floor of Hirst’s studio while he painted his acclaimed Cherry Blossoms series. Orphaned Laura is sent to live with her uncle in Cornwall, convinced that a life of adventure is hers at last. I decided to read this book because a family member recommended it to me and said that it was very good.

I also was troubled by the descriptions of the Mukhtars as stereotypes, and why was Atari’s constantly referred to as the Asian boy? After spending nearly 10 years in the orphanage, laura's uncle who lives in cornwall suprisingly came to adopt her. It’s been really fun and playful to take part in the Marlin mysteries marathon this month especially as I have been able to indulge in my creative side in making a new section of my casebook including playing with aqua brushes in my dotted journal casebook and lots of washi tape purchases (don’t tell the elf). Something that I thought more deeply/differently about was how looks can be quite deceiving and of how Laura went pass her limits to go solve a mystery by herself and put herself in danger sometimes.

I liked the opening of the story, the chapter size (just the right length for a newly-fluent reader), the characters and the setting of St.An orphaned girl with a big love for detectives finds herself thrown into mystery when she moves in to live with her uncle. Yet whilst her experiences in care does affect her confidence in making strong links with people, she isn’t jaded nor disenfranchised. It was fun reading about places I’ve been to recently (Bodmin Moor and St Ives) and Laura was a smart but not annoying protagonist. All you have to do is breakout of your jail cell and venture through the Pillager of the Damned’s decks without being seen! After walking the shore and getting my feet wet enjoying the view I found a nice log to sit and enjoy.

In the casebook much reflects around key plot elements retelling a compacted version of the story within the pages of the casebook. Always intoxicated and giving away secrets that only a locked away companionless soul could overhear. If you are on your way up to the Cape Disappointment lighthouse, then if you have the time to take the side trail to this cove then you really should. Laura's cunning sense of observation and her love of amateur investigation soon set her on a mission to discover the truth. Tariq gets kidnapped and so does Laura and they have to try and get out of Dead Man’s Cove, a cove where if they stay there too long they will sink and die.Always hoping and dreaming of finding a home where she can stay longer than half a day because she is fussy. She loves nothing more than to gossip, seems to know everything that goes on, and is such a delight that in truth she deserves a book or two of her own.
