About this deal

I like a pretty wide variety of games, but have had a hard time finding euros that are really engaging and interactive. Play against the AI or challenge your friends in the hot seat mode or online cross-platform multiplayer on PC, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch. Fundamentally, there’s a point floor, so while final scores in our three player game centered around 120-130 the real battle is over maybe ⅓ of those points. Even with a bunch of first-time players, the mechanics breed a crisp pace, while every turn carries a satisfying strategic weight. It is a game I can enjoy both with casual gaming groups and those who like to play more competitively.

This running tally is in contrast to the physical game where VP are not tallied until the very end of the game leaving you in suspense as to how well you and your opponents are doing however the inclusion of a toggle option to provide this information throughout will suit some players and can be a big aid for beginners learning how to play and score well. But hopefully people will continue to discover Concordia, and with it both PD-Verlag and Mac Gerdts. This feels like a minor gripe in a board game adaptation that does nearly everything else right however not a game goes by where I don’t wish it wasn’t included. Although I am categorizing this article as a review, most, if not all, seasoned tabletop hobbyists have known about Concordia for a long time.

It gives you tough decisions because, while utilizing a powerful card your opponent just played might not be the best move from a timing perspective, this might be your only chance to piggyback on that action for a long time. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. I would absolutely recommend Concordia for your digital collection, whether you enjoy heavy economic games or lighter games I think there’s definitely something for you to find here and it’s a must own for me for any board game app fan out there. I The map is busy and a few things can get lost, but the iconography is clear and useful in helping to manage that.

This game could be seen as a bit multiplayer-solitaire if you squint, but I don’t think anyone’s going to ever accuse it of that because you feel the impact of every other player’s decisions. Concordia presents a well designed, balanced, gaming experience that abstract strategy fans will appreciate.Salsa - This expansion contains two additional maps - Byzantium and Hispania - and a new trading good - Salt, and a new Forum mechanic. Others will be heavy on land or sea travel, or will shift the balance of power toward a certain scoring type depending on player count. In essence, this game is pretty simple: discard an action card, do the action, finish your turn – rinse and repeat. Frankly, I was shocked during that recent five-player game at how everything you need is on a small double-sided card that serves as a player aid.

Thankfully, the game more or less reinforces the scoring: each card you purchase generally makes you better at scoring points with it, so you’re likely to get incidental points even if you aren’t paying attention to this. Most of the rules are on the cards; the rulebook is a mere four pages (plus supplemental setup sheet). Guide one of these dynasties and send colonists to the remote realms of the Empire; develop your trade network; and appease the ancient gods for their favor – all to gain the chance to emerge victorious! If you’ve planned ahead well and your discard pile is plump, you’ll get a sprinkling of cash as a reward. Activating one advisor at a time, players race to spread their citizens across the empire to build a prosperous trade network. This title is far and away my favorite as it handles the trade aspect quite elegantly and as a designer/developer, I defy anyone to find me a set of rules as short as Concordia’s with the same level of depth.

The other nice thing it does is that it allows you to take your mind off of your round-to-round decisions. It’s still good, mind you, and fine for a change of pace, but the bar for quality set by the base game is high enough that this seems awkward by comparison. With additional maps and expansions, the replayability of Concordia: Digital Edition is near infinite.

Trading in the Mediterranean” might as well be code for “dry theme that’s an excuse for some designer to show us their interlocking mechanical systems. This creates a sense of urgency when someone plays something good as you can’t be certain when you’ll see it again. But new players might ignore certain cards in the market, and allowing any player to achieve a monopoly on scoring conditions is a bad idea. First, I fear that optimal openings might bring down the beginning game a bit (maybe they’ve already been discovered, but I’m sure not going to try to find them). And thankfully there’s a variant in the rules for new players which walks you through the scoring quite early in the game; I’d certainly recommend using it – a fabulous innovation.
