About this deal

I love that the story deliberately avoids falling into any of the time-tried and frankly problematic BL tropes. Our review copy from Square Enix Manga was supplied by Turnaround Comics (Turnaround Publisher Services). This is honestly a title I was looking for an excuse to read, so fingers crossed I can make it happen. Adachi had lots of instances where he was unwillingly subjected to Kurosawa's thoughts and fantasies about him - other than the beginning of the book, Adachi mostly didn't touch Kurosawa on purpose, but some touches were unavoidable. Plot Summary: Adachi, a thirty-year-old virgin, has developed the power to read people's minds by touching them.

I’m going to be very curious going into this next volume with the big boss wanting to talk to Adachi and how that conversation could challenge Adachi and Kurosawa’s relationship. When he arrives at his office job and sees the always perfect and handsome Kurosawa, a coworker who was hired at about the same time as him, he figures he'll just take a peek at Kurosawa's thoughts to make himself feel better. There’s a general sort of broishness like this that isn’t necessarily gay/queer/sexual that is all over here, and it’s quite heart-warming in a way. I feel like this will speak to any of us who overthink every little thing when we are falling for someone.I covered it pretty thoroughly, but if you want more with attributions, you can check out the “controversy” section on Wikipedia’s page for Dragonball.

The translation for Square Enix Manga is, as usual, by Taylor Engel and reads well; there are some helpful translation notes at the end. He doesn’t even use them in service to the company, until his feelings for Kurosawa inspire him to do so. We desperately need more boy’s love titles like this where the focus is on communication and mutual respect. This was a pretty cynical note to come from this BL Manga author as an aside, but I did actually chuckle.thing, but it does seem like it's going to be addressed by the narrative and it checks out with the whole fear of intimacy, so unless it persists for too long, I'm not concerned about it. This article at The New York Times about breasts in contemporary and classic artwork, and how female artists have started rendering the female nude is really good reading!

But while their love for each other can withstand shocking revelations of a supernatural nature, will their relationship be able to overcome long distance when Adachi is informed that he’s getting transferred to an office 800 miles away? I'm not 100% sold on this series, but I think I might be willing to give the next volume a shot, despite my dislike of the whole "virginity confers special powers" thing. It's also really refreshing to read a cute queer book featuring very-much-adult men; little angst, a lot of things to relate to regarding the tedium of adulting, without taking away the sweetness of budding love. We’ve actually covered a decent amount of BL manga here on Mangasplaining, though there’s always room for more. He is friendly and his good looks makes him popular in the office, but he is also secretly in love with Adachi and often fantasizes about him.

Episode 4 is driving me crazyyyyyyyyyyyyy🤦💆 (30th October 2020, she's rolling on her bed going crazy replaying the video over and over again. After confirming that he isn’t just hallucinating and loosing his mind, as one could when turning 30 and living a lackluster life, Adachi starts to think about how he never had a relationship before. The series was licensed in the USA by Square Enix Manga, and the first volume was released in English on March 10, 2020. Having never had sex in his life, after Kiyoshi Adachi reaches his 30th birthday he becomes a " wizard": he develops an ability to hear the thoughts of other people by touching them. As someone going through the motions who hasn’t considered what his options really are, just what’s expected of him (and they handle that pretty clearly in the first few pages.

Yuu Toyota is a manga creator with numerous series spanning many different genres, from shojo to slice of life. After chatting with fellow magic virgin nerd Tsuge, Adachi realizes the reason he's so reluctant to spill the magic beans is that he REALLY likes Kurosawa. I kind of love when the popular character is the one that loves the awkward unpopular character more.
