About this deal

While the compact form factor is nice to have, it comes with the caveat of a shorter pivot length for the keys. Since the PX-S1000 and PX-S3000 use capacitive touch controls, piano players who rely on touch are disadvantaged since touch controls require the use of visual aids.

The CDP-S100 uses an updated version of the AHL sound engine from previous keyboards, delivering up to 4x higher-res stereo audio compared to the previous sound engine. The key action on the CDP-S150 is also a little lighter which is fine for budding pianists who are still developing their finger muscles. There are 10 built-in voices, including multiple acoustic pianos, electric pianos, strings, harpsichord, and pipe/jazz organ. Now, getting to the electric pianos, they are good, but I’d like to see more variation between them. Was I just spoiled by an older CDP piano that sounded nicer by lacking this ‘simulated hammer noise feature’, and I would find the same thing on any modern digital piano? In this case, the piano will need polyphony not only for the notes you’re playing but also for the backing track. You should note that beginners shouldn’t have effects active at high intensities during practice, as these could end up masking certain mistakes that may end up becoming habits in the long run. Another example of polyphony consumption is when you’re playing along with a song playback (can also be your own recorded performance) or auto-accompaniment.

The main piano sound is also more realistic with longer more natural decays and wider dynamic range. But, often with budget keyboard pianos, the sound quality is pretty similar once you get past the acoustic/electric pianos. I had forgotten that I had made this thread but hey, for those who bothered to comment: in the end I bought a Casio CDP-S110. You can tweak the touch curve a bit, but the Yamaha GHS action is easier to play/control than the Casio action when you play at the back the keys. And possibly CDP-S150 has the same too short piano sound as the other lower end CDP-S models of that time.
