About this deal

While there’s not a specific color scheme in play as defined by a triad, we can certainly see that we don’t have much saturation and that more of the colors are dark than light. As you progress in the story, there are time jumps indicating that the frogs have been very busy having fun; the story jumps from 8pm, to 11:21pm, to 4:38pm, allowing it to progress very quickly. During David Wiesner's formative years, the last images he saw before closing his eyes at night were the books, rockets, elephant heads, clocks, and magnifying glasses that decorated the wallpaper of his room. In this one, the only word used (and it's used sparingly) is Tuesday as a reminder that all the events are taking place on a Tuesday night.

Tuesday has very little words so the children look at the beautiful illustrations to follow the story. The School Library Monthly declares that Tuesday has "spellbinding effect on first-time readers that they may wish to join in the adventure".

The students in my class have written their own interpretations for imagine a day…, imagine a night… and then came up with their own phenomena to imagine for eg. There is also a turtle by the pond and some birds that are in the backgrounds in different scenes in the story.

First Caldecott winning work from Wiesner, who would also go on to win the award for "The Three Pigs," and "Flotsam. His books somehow convey the sequence of thoughts leading up to and following each picture, and that quality explain why they are frequently described as cinematic. The best illustrations not only make that easy, but they involve the viewer in the act by pulling on shared assumptions and cultural backgrounds. For teaching plans and resources using this book see Hamilton's Year 5 English block, Reports and Journalism. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

cloth backed boards, hardcover; color illustrations; Winner of the 1992 Caldecott Medal for Illustrations; very good in a very good, unclipped dust jacket.

The final text is ‘NEXT TUESDAY, 7:58pm’ with the illustration showing several playful pigs hovering over the rooftops. of the 1991 Caldecott winner, oblong 4to picture book, cloth backed boards, with the author's delightful paintings of frogs on flying lilypads. As a child growing up in suburban New Jersey, Wiesner re-created his world daily in his imagination. The frog looking at the painting obviously has an artistic flair, but it also communicates that the frogs are all over the place curiously inspecting everything. While doing all of that he must give us a coherent pleasing picture that guides our eyes to accomplish all of those things.

The illustrations themselves are extremely entertaining and could fit tremendously well into a classroom environment either to explore as a class or individually. The book does not state or show who is narrating what is happening, however, it is clear that this person is going along the adventures of the frogs to show to the readers what is occurring in the book. Book is from a collection owned by a former bookseller who proudly attached the Caldecott Medal stickers sent by the publisher--note that in this case the sticker is located to the far, bottom right rather than toward the top left where it normally is.I've just been through the story for the fourth time and I'm still spotting things I hadn't seen before as I go through the book. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The descriptions, the characters, the nuance – it’s loud and proud and does everything at 100% saturation. Light-hearted and quirky, it is sure to appeal to a child's sense of adventure and fun, as well as stimulating the imagination.
