About this deal

Contents: 1 Herald on Blood Throne/Skullcannon (HQ or Heavy Support), 10 Bloodletters (Troops), 3 Bloodcrushers (Elites) GW dropped word that prices on some of their products would be going up after February 4th, 2018. With that said, the new prices increased by around 7% on average. So Start Collecting’s still aren’t a bad option in general, but the margins on value are indeed smaller. These tokens give bonuses to hit when you shoot at the marked unit, allowing a canny T’au commander to easily unloadoverwhelmingfirepower into an important target. Vehicles, Drones, and Pathfinders are especially good in this role, as they’re able to move before applying Markerlights, extending your range and thus reinforcing the Tau’s tactical mobility. You can double down on this by playing as the Farsight Enclaves subfaction, as they automatically treat enemies as having a Markerlight when within 12 inches.

It’s an interesting mix of battlesuits and favors the stealthy aspect of the Tau game play style. Using the Pathfinders, the Ghostkeel, and the Stealth suit team to get marker lights on a target for the Battlesuit Commander and Broadside battlesuit to destroy at range would be a very typical way for a Tau unit to operate. I imagine that the Ghostkeel and the Broadside are listed as squads in the formation, and you can add additional suits to those teams (up to formation limits). How does this interact with the start collecting set for Tau? Let’s take a look. The Orks box has the dubious honour of being the only Start Collecting without a legal HQ choice in it, thanks to force organisational changes in 8th edition. The contents aren’t terrible however and if you’re building an Ork horde you’re going to need savings wherever you can get them. Nobz may not be an especially optimal unit for Orks right now, but it’s an extraordinarily characterful kit full of useful bitz. Like the new Start Collecting: Chaos Space Marines box, it’s a bit hard to evaluate this one effectively because it’s currently the only place to get Suppressors, which are an insanely good unit for Iron Hands and, to a lesser extent, Imperial Fists armies. That said, everything in this box except the Lieutenant is a solid addition to a competitive Space Marines army, and even the Lieutenant is serviceable in a pinch. Even if you could get Suppressors somewhere else, this box would still be an incredibly good value based on what’s in it.Contents: 1 Farseer (HQ), 5 Wraithguard/Wraithblades (Elites), 1 Wraithlord (Heavy Support), 1 War Walker (Heavy Support) This is hopefully a complete formation that you can play right out of the box (once it’s assembled). It contains the following:

For example, their supreme mobility allows them to take objectives rapidly and harry the enemy. Smart commanders can combine this with rules that bolster shooting on the move, such as the Mont’ka Tactical Philosophy, to give you a gunline that never stays still, while still enjoying bonuses you’d normally get for remaining stationary. Deadly and fast – a dangerous combo. The Nurgle box is pretty good value. If you’re collecting Nurgle Daemons you want Plaguebearers and Nurglings en masse, and at least one Poxbringer too. If you’re going to buy those things, you might as well buy this box, and basically get the Plague Drones for free. A very respectable set which gives you pretty much what you want to get going with the faction – perfect. Contents: 1 Master of Possession (HQ), 10 Chaos Space Marines (Troops), 2 Greater Possessed (Elites), 1 Venomcrawler (Heavy Support), 2 Obliterators (Heavy Support)When you look at a T’au model, you’ll no doubt note their sleek ranged weaponry, so you’ll probably not be surprised to learn that T’au armies in 9th Edition still excel during the Shooting phase. However, that’s no longer where the T’au army begins and ends. Unlike in 8th Edition, T’au are now much more flexible on the tabletop and, though they still perform best when shooting, they have many more ways to adapt and overcome obstacles. What’s more, while their clean aesthetic and apparently progressive ‘ Greater Good’ philosophy can sometimes seem like something beamed in from a different universe, lore hounds can still find a healthy dose of grimdark lurking beneath the T’au’s shiny, armoured shells.
