As the two spend more time together on the most adorable dates, they learn more about each other and themselves along the way. She’s focused on her plan to move to New York City to become a famous author, and avoiding dealing with what happened at that party a few months ago. While their first real encounter isn't perfect, the two definitely make an impression on one another. LaDelle’s method of storytelling is so honest and genuine; you truly fall in love with these characters and can’t help but root for them.

This book is a celebration of Black love, Black teenagers, Black friendship, and the Black family, and I adored it from beginning to end. Throughout the book, the main characters face their own personal struggles, but while these moments are written with the care and the attention they deserve, this isn’t a story of struggle but one of joy.
