About this deal

Harnessing the singular qualities of rye, and accentuating it by aging in new American oak, this whisky has great depth and positively shines in cocktails. We believe that all the wines in our range are excellent examples of their style, and offer exceptional value for money. We recommend that you do not rely solely on the information presented here and that you always read labels, warnings, and directions before using or consuming a product. Lot 40 is made at Hiram Walker Distillery in Canada, one of the largest spirits producers in North America. The ultimate expression of Canadian Rye Whisky, Lot 40 is 100% rye grain that is made the old-fashioned way – distilled in a traditional copper pot still one batch at a time to preserve the notes that truly define rye whisky.

Courvoisier's delicate XO has three key flavour notes: fragrant iris flower, sweet candied orange and creamy, caramel creme brulee.Another elegant offering from Courvoisier, Courvoisier VSOP has been intricately crafted to create a smooth balance of flavours.

It comes from the term “rye-flavoured” whisky which is why we Canadians throw the term rye around quite loosely when describing the typical Canadian style of rye-flavoured blended whisky. All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or excessive amount of bubble wrap for additional protection. On the bright side, it’s different from the typical American rye whiskey that’s usually on the sweeter side and/or heavy on rye flavor.NID cookie, set by Google, is used for advertising purposes; to limit the number of times the user sees an ad, to mute unwanted ads, and to measure the effectiveness of ads. I think I still have a bottle of the original version stashed away somewhere – I must try to find it. Im usually a Bourbon lover for vanilla and dark fruit, and scotch lover for the peaty smoke and fruitiness, but I may be visiting this bottle for a good long while.

A decade or so ago it went into more broad distribution across Canada and it was simply excellent in that initial version. I get light and tamed tastes of rye spice, honey, cinnamon, adzuki beans, sakura liqueur, red rice tea, and leather. Also, unlike most Canadian whiskeys – aka Canadian “ryes” – Lot 40 is aged in new charred oak casks, while Canadian “rye” are aged in used oak casks. The mash is first distilled in a column still and then a copper pot still and aged in new, lightly charred barrels before being finished in heavily charred American oak. With a heavy cooking spice that reminds me of family dinners of my youth, with a following brown sugar and vanilla, and ending with a pepper spice and slight tannin dryness. A balance of intense flavours has been patiently nurtured over a minimum of 20 years and in this time the flavours blend to create the refined, excellence that Courvoisier is known for. Lot 40 Dark Oak gets its name from its maturation, which began in lightly charred barrels before it was then transferred to heavily charred American oak barrels for finishing.

Rising to prominence during prohibition many classic cocktails simplyaren’t complete without a shot of Angostura Orange. MADE FROM 100% RYE –Lot 40 embraces the singular qualities of rye, and compliments the flavour by aging in new American oak, which helps showcase the complexities that 100% rye whisky can offer. Taste etc I can’t add to what others have said, all I can add is that you should not miss this if you like Rye or are just starting off with Ryes. Also, living in a tropical country, I almost always look forward to going to cold places, because you can always add on more layers to insulate yourself… while you can only take off so much to beat the heat. Hennessy XO was created by Maurice Hennessy himself 1870 and was initially reserved for the maker and his friends only, a mark of its excellence. This would be what I’d consider my first real trip to Canada, as I’ve previously been to Victoria for only a few hours about a decade ago. Ingredients are individually selected for their quality and only the highest quality herbs made it into the final recipe. Over 500 years old and true to its original recipe, Benedictine has a nose fresh in spice and fresh fruit, prune and orange alongside liquorice and cloves.
