About this deal

I liked the way it dived in situations where not being stressed is not an option and how to tackle this areas of life. There’s evidence from elite performance coaches on how you use language (particularly concrete and factual) – to focus and give direction. I think it could have been better if the summaries were at the end of each part rather than chapter with the most important things included. The next job of author Smith was working as a public information officer for the District Attorney of San Francisco. But yet again, the book is very good and it could (and should) be only the first of a long and illustrious career.

Julie Smith bisa menggabungkan cerita, tips, informasi, dengan science sampai sepanjang baca gue jadi berkali-kali "oalah, nyambung toh ini dengan itu.The first thing we read about the author in this book (in the dust jacket literally after the book's title), is that Dr Julie Smith is "a social media superstar . We are built to care about how we are perceived by those around us and criticism can be a sign that we haven’t lived up to expectations.

There’s an interesting insight that people who are highly critical of others tend to be highly critical of themselves also. Harness the power of words – the language we use can have powerful effects on our experience of the world. The bite-sized entries make it effortless to locate specific information and quickly absorb the knowledge provided. I only gave 3 stars because I didn't feel there was any new info for me and it only confirmed things I already know.Smith's expertise as a therapist shines through in her approach, providing readers with reliable and trustworthy advice.

This book tackles the everyday issues that affect us all and offers easy, practical solutions that might just change your life. She is the BBC Radio 1 Life Hacks Psychologist and has been featured by Women's Health, Buzzfeed, the Telegraph, The Times, the Mail on Sunday, Glamour, Cosmopolitan and many more. authored by the esteemed Julie Smith, emerges as a profound and invaluable literary gem that invites readers into a realm of transformative mental health strategies. This is psychoeducation – providing clients with knowledge to develop their understanding and to help them themselves. The best way to break down the power that thoughts have over our emotional state is to first get some distance from them. The wisdom and practicality found within these pages have the potential to genuinely transform lives. She suggests becoming your own coach (honesty, accountability, unconditional encouragement and support), rather than allowing your inner critic to run riot. For the next 10 years of her journalism career, Smith worked as a court and general assignment reporter.

She heavily relies on cognitive behaviour therapy's theory that by changing how you think, you can change how you feel and behave. This book probably sounded good when pitched to an editor off the back of a successful social media account, and I imagine it will find an audience based on the promise alone. Smith generously shares her therapist's toolkit, offering an exquisite amalgamation of expert guidance and clandestine wisdom, intended to fortify and sustain our mental well-being even amidst the most arduous trials. Even better, her advice is always practical, not abstract so the viewer will know how to put the advice to work. We protect ourselves from the psychological threat of shame by sabotaging the process before it gets started.Consider your thought biases (cognitive distortions) – for example: overgeneralisation, egocentric feeling, emotional reasoning, mental filter (only looking for negatives and disregarding positives), “must” and “should” linked to perfectionism and “all or nothing” (black and white) thinking. It's a really useful guide on how to recognise your behaviour for what it is and provides methods for understanding what's happening and for counteracting the behaviour if it's causing you stress or anxiety. Quite a fair point; this book is the elaboration beyond the "bites": what she's left behind for clarity and brevity. And often you’ll feel the feeling and you’ll go and do the thing and you haven’t really separated out the urge and the action – you just do it all in one go. There’s reference to the book “The happiness trap” by Russ Harris which explains how your emotions are like the weather: constantly moving and changing, sometimes predictably, sometimes suddenly and unexpectedly.
