About this deal

The Actnes are there because a walk with a Matchless DC30 or Vox AC 30 in a F1 flichtcase isn't always a joy and not needed, because a venue isn't suited for a large amp or the band use a PA. The AC tone pedal from JOYO really captures something usually missing from most modern guitar sounds: subtle to aggressive warmth and a natural sounding overdrive. Of course, I did spend some time setting it up to create the tone I needed through my particular set-up, and I do use a very high quality power supply (the 1Spot). I use a Tech21 Blond v2 (with the speaker defeat switch) for that application - direct into mixer - and that is my recommendation. I believe I read the AC Tone has different op amp chips to the Tech 21 Liverpool, and that it was suggested they were the cause of the additional noise compared with the Liverpool.

The AC Tone pedal from Joyo really captures something usually missing from most modern guitar sounds: subtle to aggressive warmth and a natural sounding overdrive. I want to try to add a switch for the speaker sim bypass though, and as this is my first muck-about with SMD, I think I'll go and practice on some old PCI cards I have lying about first.

It's more of an amp simulator which is great at producing those distinctive Vox AC30 amp style tones. Maybe I didn't play around with these enough to find the sweet spots, but I did not like what I heard. Some people in China got paid for work they were prepared to do, same as if they were Americans or Mexicans or Nigerians.

I know they're different types of units, but wondering how the Joyo compares to the Quilter in terms of sound/tone. Being able to switch between a 1x8, Vox 2x12, Fender 4x10 and Marshall 4x12 (based on videos I've listened to) sounds really intriguing, maybe more so than switching amp models. In fact, if they don't protect their IP rights they could lose claim to them altogether, so you can bet that if this is indeed a copycat pedal that Joyo is making, Tech-21 has already investigated and made a determination of whether or not to sue for infringement, based upon the probability of being able to prevail. Despite the "True Bypass" label next to the 3PDT footswitch, there is a (presumably JFET source follower) bypass buffer. I won't argue that my Mazda Miata is every bit as good as a Ferrari California, but it's still an enjoyable substitute and all I am likely to ever afford. By the time it goes through the main board and back to my in ear monitors, I can't tell the difference between that and my mic'd up 18-watt tube amp. FWIW - I have the Zoom MS100bt - It has some really great effects and utility stuff, like noise gates, EQs and a tuner.
