About this deal

Also in the box is a dry erase scoreboard which is a particularly nice add-on… and two new empire cards. There are also some really expensive, but very high point cards that can also give you something to aim for.

Besides cards, you have a starting empire card to give you resources (as well as an end-game scoring condition to nudge you in a certain direction). Some games were won with many low point scoring buildings, some with heavy-hitting scoring cards and one was based on earning multipliers based on the number of Supremacy tokens earned! They then pick up the cards they were passed and continue this process until everyone has seven cards in front of them.Building an empire can take many forms, many of which don’t make sense right now – but isn’t that what history books are for? You can take this in one of two ways, get annoyed that it is something you can’t use, or look at it as a goal to build towards. I’ve never once found myself thinking, “I need to find a card that produces science so I can build my cloning vats”.

It allows for some really cool combos and slows the game enough that you can get a sense of who’s doing well in which areas without having to do all that looking yourself. He’s not generally very effusive in his praise of games, so I was immediately intrigued and picked up a copy, and I am so glad I did. Personally I would love to see some ore Empire boards to really mix up the different player board options and give players a chance to try some different focused combinations from the beginning. It is a card game for 1-5 players that will have each player trying to build their own little empire. I am roused from my slumber by a pounding on my door and a command received via text from an unknown number. There are slightly different rules for the 2 player game; each player gets ten cards, and you draft, passing the cards back and forth, until you have three cards in your hand. Given that all of this unfolds in the span of a mere thirty minutes (if that), I cannot help but give It’s a Wonderful World the utmost praise.

place cubes - as during drafting cubes are placed on incomplete cards and completed cards may immediately be built and added to Empire tableau. It is a fantastic combination of drafting and engine building, with a chain-reaction production phase that makes it feel like no other. In reality, it all kind of fades into different coloured cards that produce different coloured cubes.

I’m not sure the goodie box of Kickstarter extras is worth the hard-earned money I spent on it… but since this is a game we play a good bit, I love how the little plastic bit bowls and chunky wooden round marker make the game a little bit nicer. There is a central board that contains materials of five different colors as well as a small board that holds three different resources – generals, financiers and krystallium. The track for points is not exciting at all, and doesn’t integrate well with the rest of the gameplay. Almost all of the reviews on Board Game Quest are from review copies of a game provided by the publisher.

The fact that they included adjustments for 2 players is great, and while I haven’t yet tried the solo game it seems like it will give you much of the feel of the regular game, and it is especially relevant in our current situation. I also played through the campaigns solo after we finished our two-player adventures… and can recommend them as solo experiences. Both are similar in structure – the box contains rules for a campaign of 5 games in which the winner of the final game is the winner of the campaign. There is a huge deck of cards, baggies containing six different coloured cubes, a bag of orange general chits and a bag of blue financier tokens. Those in your constructed are considered “Under Construction” and the recycled ones are discarded and you collect the Recycling bonus resource cube.
