About this deal

And while Kiersten White has been more in Serena’s genres of fantasy and historical fiction, she has dabbled in horror now and again. The whole point to a horror type book is that you’re supposed to care about the characters when bad things happen to them, otherwise you don’t care and the emotion just isn’t there while reading.

I consider myself a bit of a coward, and I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone with this book. I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s always kinda fun when Serena and I have an author that we both really enjoy. Hide” is included on the Goodreads list “2022 Horror Novels Written by Women and Non-Binary Femmes”. It had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, serial killers, Revenge, and some crazy twists and turns! I do wonder what will happen to the monster and I guess it's up to our imagination to determine its future. It didn’t add value to her character or the story in my opinion because it was just such a quick “Oh she acts this way because __________ happened to her”. I enjoyed each characters back story and loved how you learned more about them every few pages , it kept you on your toes and engaged in the book wanting to to find out more. She and 13 other young people are taken to an abandoned amusement park, where they're told they must hide during daylight hours and that the first two members of their group to be found every day will be out of the competition. And I’m not going to spoil to much here in terms of big details, but the way that White handles this story, with nods to Greek mythology as well as very real issues regarding the idle rich vs an ever more strained lower class, is a well balanced take on all the things she seeks to take on. After all, hiding is what saved her life when her father massacred the rest of her family; she figures she can hide for seven days in less dire circumstances.

Haunting, startling, unrelenting, and unexpectedly heartbreaking, Hide draws you inexorably in among the thorns and rust, where the monsters are both intimately familiar and horrifyingly unfathomable. The premise of the story is frighteningly simple: fourteen contestants are dropped off in an abandoned amusement park for a game of extreme hide-and-seek that promises fame and a fifty thousand dollar cash prize for the winner. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.A high-stakes hide-and-seek competition turns deadly in this dark thriller from New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White. In a featureless box of a space, the ceiling looming so far overhead a bird lives in the beams, there are cots. The prose is simplistic, and though the characters are out of their teens, most of them are emotionally stunted from trauma and seem younger (one has her first kiss ever during the competition).
