About this deal

He gets caught in the crossfire between Putin's army and the Wolves, a rogue team of Ukraine partisans. given that I’m going to give this book a bit of a tongue lashing because (insert sarcasm) was Harry in the Paras? It all starts when a young teenage girl goes missing until the very gruesome murder of her mother and with little to go on Grimm and his new team of police officers work hard to get to the bottom. I might try another in this series at some point, although I hope the constant focus on Yorkshire people and ways and foods and so on is toned down a bit.

There was not much that was especially memorable about it except for the character of Harry and the Yorkshire setting, but that was enough to hold my interest and I would expect to read more of the series in the future. Story wise, Harry Grimm is first assigned to a dubious missing persons case, but this quickly escalates into something more. Harry found himself staring at a corner building with the word HERRIOT's in gold lettering on the side of it. Harry is investigating the murderer’s motive, which dates back to the slain classmates’ schooling years. I do hope the author improves this, because seriously - Yorkshire exists in XXI century, so its inhabitants are all modern people.Gatward's description of the sittings of Grimm Up North, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book plot. On a beautiful morning, Bill Dinsdale, a Yorkshire farmer, bids goodbye to his loving wife and sets out to do one of his favorite jobs, baling hay. For the most part I liked the humor that ran throughout, though at times it felt like it was trying a bit too hard to make me laugh, especially at the start. Sadly from the beginning it was full of swearing which spoils it for me as I’ve not read beyond the second chapter.

Harry is juggling the homicide investigation with his own long-estranged father—who, decades earlier, killed Harry’s mother and apparently injured his imprisoned sibling Ben—who has since reached out and gives him an unwanted danger warning. A great introduction to Harry Grimm who is a man with a history and a dark one at that, but who I found a likeable bloke even with his flaws. Maybe my perception has been altered by my religious intolerance, but I wasn’t entirely happy with this one. But he’ll also need to think about his own greatest mystery – what to do about his criminal father, who killed his mother. The fusion of the country and city with the is seamlessly executed, crafting a world that feels like it is going to be fun to explore. The nearby town of Askrig is the home of an internationally famous pop singer, Gareth Jones, who recorded “that Christmas song – you remember. However, on his first day in Wensleydale, his car broke down, and he caught his first case of a missing teenager. He arrives and finds the total police presence there consists of two PCSOs working out of a room in the local community centre and his fears seem to be realised.

A hulking, facially scarred veteran paratrooper, Harry was prepared to experience (and exploit) the natural fear he inspires in most people. As you would expect there are some differences between his big city experience and what he encounters in Yorkshire. The victim was a bad-tempered, feared, hated, and long-time bullying farmer named John “Beef” Capstick who had a troubled childhood and estranged with his father. A Somerset resident born in March 1973; David, who was an elementary school teacher by profession, has been the Managing Director of Kevin Mayhew Publishers since January 2017. Transferred to a town in the Yorkshire Dales, he’s finding himself – to his own surprise – settling in comfortably with the laid-back, eccentric local force.

The gradual process of building a team with a great mix of characters is superbly done with a good mix of personalities even the soon to retire lazy DSI. A classic fish-out-of-water crime mystery set in the stunning and evocative scenery of Wensleydale in North Yorkshire. The characters, neatly woven into the narrative, possess a depth that adds authenticity to their little town.First dated November 30, 2020; John Carson’s novel Starvation Lake is book one in his DCI Sean Bracken series.
